Product Overview

Dual sensor technology is the preferred choice of fire service professionals for its ability to detect both flaming and smoldering fires. Ionization technology smoke detectors are generally more sensitive than photoelectric technology smoke detectors at sensing small particles, which tend to be produced in greater amounts by hot, flaming fires that are consuming combustible materials rapidly and may spread quickly. Photoelectric smoke detector technology is generally more sensitive than ionization smoke detector technology at sensing large smoke particles, which tend to be produced in greater amounts by smoldering fires, which may smolder for hours before bursting into flame. With this fire alarm, you no longer need to choose just one technology. This unit is powered by 2-AA batteries (included), and features intelligent sensing technology which reduces non-emergency or nuisance alarms. This product is also backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

  • 2-smoke sensing chambers, ionization and photoelectric for maximum fire detection
  • Intelligent sensing technology reduces non-emergency or nuisance alarms
  • Single button silence/test mutes unwanted alarms
  • Operates on 2-AA batteries (included)
  • 10-year limited warranty

Customer Questions & Answers

Do both sensors, photoelectric and the ionization, have to trip in order for the alarm to go off?

Asked by: MrsG
No. Either sensor tripped will set it off. That is why it is recommended - one sensor is more sensitive to hot fires, other sensor more sensitive to slow fire - with dual sensor you have higher overall protection. See Consumer Reports for more detailed explanation.

I'm finding that some alarms don't audibly notify you when the batteries are dying or dead. Does this model?

Asked by: question
Yes, low battery audible chirp. Also has a low battery latch to easily identify which unit requires a new battery.

Is it fine to use rechargeable batteries with this smoke alarm?

If it's fine to use rechargeable batteries, do they have to be a particular type (e.g. made out of NimH), or are there any types that should be avoided? Any info would help. Thanks.
Asked by: Supersan77
Literature clearly issues a WARNING! DO NOT use rechargeable batteries.

Can I replace hard wired smoke detectors with battery operated and just tuck the old wiring up above.

Asked by: JimJ
Not recommended but you can. Make sure wire left terminated properly. If not sure, get electrician.

Battery Operated Dual Sensor Photoelectric and Ionization Smoke Alarm is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product needs to be in stores As a retired firefighter and home fire safety educator, I am dismayed at the lack of quality fire/smoke detection products carried in-store. This particular unit is a dual sensor, meaning it can detect smoke/fire in two different methods, thereby giving a homeowner a greater level of security. Nothing beats an overall fire safety plan, but fire/smoke detector units like this are a big key in that plan. As for the detector itself, I like the fact that it uses AA batteries and is very easy to install. If you haven't replaced the fire/smoke detectors in your home within the last ten years, you NEED TO DO SO! Technology changes and the newer models are much more efficient than older ones. Remember, the life you save may be yours or your loved ones!

Purchased this unit because I wanted a dual function ionization and photoelectric detector in a room containing a wood stove. Unit was east to install but I needed to create a fair amount of smoke before it sounded. Green LED indicator light very tiny and difficult to see. Hopefully it will function properly in the future.

The "active" light flashes a dim white glow that's hard to spot every 30 seconds or so. My other model detector flashes red and is easier to see. Hopefully with its duel sensors it will do the job.

Very pleased - unit has both kind of sensors so reacts to both fast moving and smoldering fires. Installing easy and will give more protection than the unit it replaced. I'll be getting this to replace all my detectors as they "age out".

This product was easy to install, and comes with batteries, always a great idea. I installed one in my kitchen and just a little smoke (from cooking) will set it off, so I am sure that it will work great in case of a real emergency.
