Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great and loud Loud voice. Installed two on first floor and one on second floor. Easy to install. January 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Seems to work - IF YOU DISABLE THE IR PART!!! Lots of complaints about the alarm going into test mode for no reason. I had the same problem. Took it down and it sat for months. I realized "HEY THERE IS A WARRANTY". When I called up customer service, as soon as I mentioned the problem... "Oh yeah, a remote control or energy saving light bulb probably is setting it off, disable the IR sensor and it will stop". It was simple, Open the battery door with the batteries in, hhold down the test button while closing the door, a chirp will sound and then the IR mode is disabled. So far no more problems. Otherwise it is a smoke/CO alarm that sits there and doesn't do anything exciting. March 31, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by The remote control feature is a major downside! This is a good product, but for us the remote control sensor caused me to get rid of them. It only mentions using a remote to mute the alarm on the package, not the ability to "test" the unit by remote. My daughter has a moon that hangs on the wall that turns on by remote. The remote also sets off the alarm in her room, even though I'm pointing it to the opposite side of the room. It has scared her so much she demanded we take the moon out of her room. Twice my 1 year old got a hold of the tv remote and accidentally set off the one downstairs, scaring the heck out of both children. I'm getting models without the remote control feature. I'm deducting points based off our experiences. December 31, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Annoying. Im sure the smoke detector would have worked fine had there been a fire. The poor rating was because of the feature that lets you test the alarm with any remote control. Just push any remote button and the sensor picks it up and goes into test mode. That sounds great, except that you don't have to be pointing the remote at the unit to trigger the test mode. Any where in the room will do! About 10 times out of 30 while using your remote normally while watching TV.... BEEEEP - BEEEEP - BEEEP! --WARNING EVACUATE FIRE IN MASTER BEDROOM EVACUATE --- BIP BIP BIP - WARNING EVACUATE CARBON MONOXIDE IN MASTER BEDROOM EVACUATE!. Not good when the wife is sleeping. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase for safety of family Easy to install and access to batteries. Easy to conduct weekly tests December 11, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Got rid of it I had one of these and got rid of it. My TV and stereo remotes kept setting it off. Very annoying at midnight! March 7, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Crying Wolf The IR sensor is not a selling point, as many things can accidentally set it off, causing frequent false alarms until you figure out what apparently random phenomenon is triggering the tests. This undesirable feature can be disabled (see manual), but this is not the only problem I have with the device. My biggest problem is that the first few times my boys accidentally "tested" the one in their bedroom with a television remote, I completely ignored it because it sounds exactly like one of their rescue-action-hero television shows or associated electronic toys. Seriously, it sounds nothing like a real emergency alarm when it goes off. It sounds like a voice actor trying to fake urgency and heightened drama for a cheap cartoon franchise, with associated sound affects. My first reaction when I hear it isn't to evacuate, but to turn it down or tune it out. A real alarm should sound like a real alarm, so that I and my children take it seriously. January 20, 2014
