Customer Questions & Answers

How do I replace the battery?

Asked by: aquariette
The battery is not in the back, the product pictures (2nd one) clearly show the sliding ' battery drawer' in the front. It is obvious if you are looking at the unit as it is the only piece that is not a part of the overall molded unit.

can this alarm be a compatiable replacement for a first alert Model 9120B?

I currently have a first alert model 9120B which is an ionized smoke and fire alarm. I find it is very sensitive and light cooking seems to set it off and after doing some research I read how Photoelectric alams are not as super sensitive. I wanted to know if this model alarm would be a comparable replacement for the ionized alarm and second because they are interconnected do I need to replace all the alarms? Any information you can provide would be most helpful
Asked by: MikeS
Yes, according to First Alert Model 9120B is compatible with Model 7010B. Just unplug #9120B then plug in #7010B. Both use the same mounting ring as well.

I ordered these because I live on the Gulf Coast, and the builder-grade smoke alarms I had went off when I had my windows open in the spring and fall when it was very humid, which is most of the time. I love to have my windows open, but it just wasn't acceptable to have all my alarms go off when windows were open overnight. Since my son installed these new alarms, I have not had so much as a chirp, and my windows have been open day and night for about a week. I would definitely recommend this product if humidity is a concern, even if open windows aren't your humidity problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Bought this photoelectric detector to replace an ionization model in our kitchen. The ionization type was causing lots of false alarms from toasters, ovens, stove usage, etc. Replaced a BRK branded model (parent company to FirstAlert). Hardwired connectors were identical and it interoperates with the other BRKs in our home. New detector's mounting ring was different than existing detector, though. After one and a half months in kitchen, not a single false alarm from burnt toast or dirty oven. Works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardwired BRK (First Alert) smoke detector system is very good. Works well while powered from utility and when under battery operation, communicates with other detectors very well in both powered modes. loud and very recognizable. Each unit comes with its own: mount plate, pigtail connector, temp dust cover, set of lithium AA batteries from Duracel and installation instruction in many languages. You provide the hard wiring, 15 amp circuit breaker, mounting screws and the boxes. These can be mounted on ceiling or wall. I installed each and tested in under battery power only starting with unit furthest from the panel. After all were installed but not yet util power'd I tested each in reverse order (last install to first install). Then I connected the circuit breaker and retested each unit again in order from util to last and back again. Then powered down the circuit and retested again. To make sure everything functioned properly. Then did a small smoke test to make sure each did its job.Covered with temp dust covers while rest of construction was completed. (Note we have a backup generator and this circuit line was put on the backed up power side of the generator system.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK I purchased 7- 7010B on 10/14/2015, I began to have problems with 2 of the 7 units, chirping day and night Chirp, Chirp, Chirp! 10/27/2015 I called BRK First Alert 800-323-9005. I was told to take the units out of the 10' ceiling, remove battery, discharge unit by pushing test button, using key board canned air blow out units, re install battery and plug back into ceiling. On 12/5/2015 one again began to Chirp! I called BRK First Alert again today 12/7/2015, I was advised to again take the unit out of ceiling, verify Serial Number with BRK and for $6.50 they would send me a replacement! These/ this Unit is Defective! I have done everything they asked! But I refuse to pay for a product that is less than 2 months old. BRK was aware of the units past problems, yet they FAIL to stand behind there products! Do yourself a favor, BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FAST SERVICE I had hoped the First Alert jacks from my old detectors would fit this model but they didn't, neither did the mounting bracket. However, it was easy to attach the new mounting brackets on the original screws and rewire the 110 power to the new jacks. Hopefully, I am now good for another 10 years!! They arrived in a couple business days.
