Answer:
Yes, you can put a LED light bulb in this motion sensor. The instruction sheet that comes in the box with the fixture, as well as the instruction sheet that is posted to the right of the product description right here on the Home Depot webpage, says you can install a LED bulb in this fixture as long as it is 16 watts or less.

Yes, it will go on if it is mounted in an area where it can detect the motion of the door going up and down. If you have it mounted somewhere in the garage where something is blocking it from "seeing" your garage door, then it won't work.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 109 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lights Easy to install, I love that my basement lights aren't left on all day August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Motion light Great product. Very sensative to movement. Light turns off about one minute not long like others had previously August 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works like a charm Bought this product for my garage and it works as advertised. I bought a different brand before this one that never turned off, this one does around the 4 min. time frame. I can even leave my side door open and it's only my movement entering the garage again that trips the light again. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works perfectly Easy to install, performs as advertised, happy with the sensing light mechanism July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great Easy install, just screw it in and you're done. The only drawback is that it does not have an adjustment for how long is stays on after it comes on. I timed it and it stayed on for three minutes. July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by good idea bad results Great idea but it doesn't work well, some times the lights turn on in a closet ,most of the time I have to waive both arms to get them to turn on. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! I just screwed it into the light socket, then screwed in a standard CFL light bulb and pulled the string out of the way and tacked it to the edge of the doorway. This light is at my garage entrance to my house and it's four steps up from the garage to the terrace level. The string was always a nuisance. Now I can carry groceries into the house without having to deal with a darkened stairway or pull a string for light. I love it. It was an economical solution to a minor annoyance. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for the laundry room! Needed a solution to entering our new laundry room if our hands were full. There are two doors going into laundry room, one from the house and one from the garage. It measures 6x12. The way to get into the house from the garage is through the laundry room. The switch from the garage side was very inconvenient to turn on, especially with full hands. We thought we would have to hire an electrician to move the garage switch. Didn't know this type of light existed until our son found it using the Home Depot search engine. Great value for the price. December 8, 2015
