Lock for sliding door is very well made, works easily. Very secure. Needs a key to open or close. Installs on top edge. My son installed it - no problems with it. A very good buy!

Description/Instructions could have been more detailed. It should have stated that you needed to drill holes in the door and the frame. Overall it was a good product.

The lock works well, though I had to do a little Southern engineering to make it fit the vinyl door due to the lip on the track. Once the receiving hole was right, it works like a charm.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AH Perfect for new construction, or security on any sliding door
This lock when properly installed not only locks a sliding door, but also prevents it from being lifted out of the track. THe device is perfect for new construction on a second floor where a deck is planned for later construction. Under those circumstances code requires a fence or guard be installed across the door opening. THis pf course damages the door frame and siding such that a repair is required when the deck is installed at a later time. Most inspectors will accept this lock as sufficient to meet code as it prevents the door from opening without the key, and it mounts at the top of the door out of reach of children.

This is exactly what we needed to add security to our patio door. We ordered it online and 3 days later it was at our door. Easy installation.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jamhess Good product lasted a long time, 16 yrs
The bolt lasted for 16 yrs, finally the key cylinder fell apart. Also It's hard to drill the hole for the bolt, best if your can remove the slider door. The bolts on an inside slider, and I have the outer slider screwed shut so as can't be removed, but no lock will keep someone from breaking the glass.
I have three of them.

This is an ok lock, but it won't last long. The mechanism will jam after a while. I have gone through about 4 of these in the past few years. My door is broken unfortunately so this is the only lock that will work so I am stuck replacing it until I can replace the entire door.
