How does it fit on a bifold door? Bottom, top or in the hinge of the door where it folds. Without a picture it is hard to determine whether to buy it.

Asked by: LPBJR
This would not be function on a bifold, you could put a sliding bolt on the part that bows outward in the middle, but that could be too loose too.

what is this used for?

Asked by: jethro
This is a simple latch -- just two pieces of metal that are supposed to lock at 90 degrees -- that fits to any door with a door frame containing a cutout for a door latch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable door lock This lock was difficult to get to stay in place when I tried it on my home door, but I had purchased it for traveling, so took it with me to New Orleans. Don't know why, but it was much easier to hold in place while I closed the door of my hotel, and then held the door closed just fine. Not saying someone could not have kicked the door open, but no one was going to open it without my knowing it and that was what I wanted. Differences in doors may make a difference in ease of use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible -- Poor Workmanship, Failed to Lock I have an old, smaller version of this concept that I got 25 years ago. It works fine. I figured, "hey, there are only two pieces of metal in this contraption, nobody can screw it up". But the manufacturer has produced a failed product. This piece of junk does not latch -- the grooves are too wide and not deep enough to catch the movable latch. The intentionally bent hinge and intentionally bent latch holds the the latch just under 180 degrees (at approximately 170 degrees) so that one swift kick will enable it to fail entirely. This is a simple design -- just two pieces of metal -- that fails because of poor workmanship. I might be able to modify it to work with a hacksaw, vise and hammer, but why should I have to do the work on something that was supposed to be complete and ready to go? And if I do modify it, the latch will be weaker (since I will have to cut some material away and bend the hinge and the other metal part twice) and less effective. This is not an isolated problem -- I actually purchased two examples of this and both had the same flaws in design and manufacturing. I hope some other manufacturer sees this as an opportunity and actually makes a version of this that works. If I could give Zero Stars and Zero Quality and Zero Value in the ratings at the top, I would do so.
