Answer:
both. It has a saw attached to the end and also the pruner.
Tip: remove saw blade (two thumb screws) when just pruning. The saw tends to get in the way.

Answer:
It's a crosscut saw. It makes short work of any 4" diameter branch. No pressure requires; just lay the saw onto the branch, saw, and the weight of the saw will easily cut thru the branch.

Answer:
It does both. You get two tools in one: a large cutting saw for big branches, and a pruner for twigs; the latter is comprised of 2 parts: a sort of hook allowing you to "grab" the twig, and a small sharp blade that snips it when you pull the rope.

BOTH - It has a shear that is operated by the rope that will cut smaller limbs to about 1½" or less. The saw blade will cut anything.

It can do both. Depending on the branch size you can clip them, but for the larger ones you'll need to cut them with the saw blade.

Not exactly, but it's very easy to loosen the bolt and fold the blade down against the body of the saw, where it's safe. You can also detach the blade with the same bolt if you only want to use the clippers.

Answer:
No, it doesn't. But if you keep the blade in the closed position and keep it screwed tight, it is safe to carry around. When ready to use, just twist the screw nut loose, push the blade to the up or extended position and tighten. It loosens and tightens by hand, but sometimes I need a pliers to loosen the screw. Have had it for two years and works great.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 451 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for Palm Trees We saw a professional gardner using something similar to trim palm tree fronds and started looking for something ourselves. This particular model gets good to great reviews. Lowe's sells something similar that got awful reviews. After reading all, once we brought the tool home, my husband tightened up all the nuts and screws. He used the blade to trim off palm fronds and the built in cutter device (using the rope cord) to trim low handing branches off our Bradford Pear. Overall, an excellent tool so far. Husband said he liked this so much better than having to stand on a ladder and use a saw blade. September 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Way to prune a tree from the ground I needed an extension pruner to cut some tree branches away from my house (Bradford pear tree). I had an old pruner but it is dull and hard to use. I purchased this with the intention of using the saw along with the clipper portion for smaller branches. The product did its job although the saw portion got caught when the branch fell and stayed on the roof. I finally got it out and then continued cutting in an adjacent area on the branch. This product cost $40 and I saved many dollars as opposed to getting a tree cutting company come out and do it. August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Product I bought this to replace an old one...what a mistake. So there is a coiled spring that is hooked behind a piece of metal on one end and attached through a clip on the other. So each time I cut a branch the spring comes dislodged from the piece of metal...which means it also dislodges from the clip that controls the blade. Worse still, that clip slides out of the two pieces it connects and falls to the ground. So then I have to look for the clip, put the pieces back together, insert the spring into the clip and then wind the spring back to hook it tight. The I cut another branch, and the find, insert, attached and wind process starts again. Takes about 5 minutes per branch. Garbage product...save your money. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Pruner I was going to buy a chain saw to trim neighbors bushes and trees and I remembered my friend speaking about this pruner. For under $40 dollars, I purchased one and in 30 minutes I cut down so many branches it took as long to carry out. A side benefit I use it to clean up my hunting area. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great limb saw This helps me cut branches off several trees that needed to be removed. It is sharp and the long pole makes it easy to reach high limbs. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely effective blade! I purchased based on most of the reviews here. The first thing I did after removing the packaging was to tighten the nuts on the clamp. I was able to make very short work of two small limbs about 3" in diameter, about 45 seconds each. I then moved on to one about 6" in diameter and was able to get through it in about 2 minutes. Finally, another about 7-1/2" this one was done in about 4 minutes. Overall it took longer to walk into the store, select it from the shelf and check out than it did to cut what I needed. Have not used the loper yet, so I cannot comment on it. August 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decnt Trimmer The pruner works well. The extension holder does slip some of the time. It is not as secure s we thought it should be. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best purchase ever Our neighbors trees and bushes were running over into our backyard. The pruner was able to reach and cut those pesky high branches. This stopped the leaves from clogging the drain, which caused flooding in the basement. The pruner did a great job and I recommend this to anyone that wants to cut high tree branches. August 30, 2016
