I bought the Fiskar Garden Spade based on the reviews. The Fiskar Garden Spade has many uses. I can lean on it, it will kill spiders if you whack them hard enough, great for propping open my garden shed door and if you hold it just right you can convince the occasional squirrel you have your Bruce Willis on, The spade is great for moving loose bedding or potting soil....not so great for cutting into the lawn to make room for plants. The first time I used the spade I jumped on the foot pads and rode that baby all the way to the ground. Unfortunately the little dent it made wasn't what I was hoping for. After jumping on it several times like it was a pogo stick the only thing I was accomplishing was amusing the neighbors. My soil isn't loose and airy but it's not compacted or rock hard either. If it my soil was loose I wouldn't need a spade.

This shovel is the greatest, I have a wood stove and cleaning out the coals and ashes is a job I dreaded. The stove itself is rectangle, which makes it deep and hard to reach the back when cleaning it out. This shovel is the best tool to get the job done. The little ones they sell for this type of job, aren't good for this type of stove. You won't get burned trying to reach the back and if the stove is still hot you are far enough away to keep you safe from the heat. The handle is non-heat conducting, so your hands are safe. It is well made and well worth the price. It will last for years.

So far, we have not broken the all-steel handle as we have so many wooden handles, and so-called fiberglass handles (which were nothing but a thin sheath of fiberglass over wood). We searched the Internet for these features: all metal shaft, wide tread edge, D handle topped... And this was it. Pricier than the usual run of the mill stuff, but if I'd bought this before the half dozen inferior spades over the years I'd be well ahead.
Because the folks using this are all over 6 ft. tall, it could've been a bit longer. And I am concerned the gap between the welded handle tube into the blade, a triangular gap not seen on the photos, will hold too much muck and moisture and be an early fail point due to rust. But it has handled several weeks of heavy use in heavy georgia clay with no issues.

only been able to use this shovel once so far, that's why i rated it as good. since i am a short person, i like that it is not too tall and i was able to handle it with no problems. it seems very durable and it was reasonably priced. i look forward to using it for years to come.

The straight blade on this spade was just what I needed to get a straight flower bed border. The ground I was working was very hard in some areas, but the spade did the job well.
