If you clean after each use and occasionally spray with WD 40 or some type of light oil it will protect it from rust.

They are sharp and strong. I found these work well in combination with larger loppers if you are trying to trim trees in your yard. I used these on my Christmas tree as well to cut the bottom branches so that the tree would fit through the door. In the pictures below I was trimming a holly tree. If you are cutting larger branches, the pruner works better if you put the branch as deep as possible inside the pruner to get the extra leverage. I would definitely buy them again if I lost them.

Okay Pruners, But Not Great at All Okay so I bought this pair of medium duty bypass pruners at the same time as the Fiskars light duty bypass pruners. And to tell the truth the light duty pair are better… When I use these I need the light duty pair as well. because for me these only cut branches around 1/3 inch in diameter any less than that and they don’t cut properly! The woods they work well on are: Maple/peach /and Bradford pear They hate pine /cypress /oak and more. Pros: Works well on some branches 1/3 inch in diameter. Good hand feel. Strong blade. Cons Will not work on twigs. They squeak even when oiled. I’d give it 2 out of 5 on twigs. And 4 out of 5 for the things they actually managed to cut.

When in Home Depot, at the time, these were the only pruners available. I looked around the store, and asked an associate and these were the only brand and style available, so I picked them up. The associate suggested at $9.98 they were 'expensive' but that's what I expected to pay, so they weren't expensive to me. And at the end of the day, they do what they are designed to do, trim bushes, small tree branches etc. They are sharp and sturdy and worked perfectly for the bushes I needed to tidy up.

I've used a lot of different pruners over the years.  This is among my favorites, it's small, ergonomic, and efficient.  I use it routinely to cut back small growth from around a heavily wooded property.  It's small size means it is simple to stow in a cargo pocket and its superior functionality is great. This thing cuts through small branches and limbs without issue and is easy to keep sharp.  Most of this tools predecessors have gotten tossed in the trash due to wear and tear.  This one has lasted three seasons and shows no signs of rust or other impediment.  I just finished using it extensively for a spring cutback and it performed flawlessly. An additional convenience is the tools ability to be used equally well in both hands.  I'm right handed, but I've also used this tool while climbing trees to cut shooting lanes for deer season and the ability to hold on with my right hand and cut with my left is additional value added.

It works perfectly for small thinning jobs on my plum trees and the hedges near a fence. I am just beginning my season of yard work for the year and look forward to getting a lot of use out of this tool. I spent a bit more for a name I trust.
