Is this bin suitable for use on an apartment porch??

Wondering about the bottom of the bin and if it would work on an apartment porch or not?

Thank you for contacting Fiskars. This item was designed to be used directly on the ground. The bottom is open and it needs to be anchored into the ground.

Customer Reviews

75 gal. EcoBin Composter is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Versitile For full disclosure, we have not done composting before we bought this product. With that being said, I think it works really well, at least it makes sense. It has a mesh exterior that allows rain, wind, and sun to penetrate into the contents which are essential for proper degradation. The mesh conceals the contents fairly well and the overall design is very nice. At least nice enough where you don't feel like you need to hide it away completely. The top is connected with a string latch which concerned me and the base is tied down with 4"-5" metal stakes which also concerned me a little. I thought this thing would be gone during a good windstorm. Oh man was I wrong. I live in Maryland and we had a pretty nasty wind storm recently. Wood shingles and trash cans flew about like it was nothing. Not this thing, the top didn't even come off! I was incredibly satisfied. Overall this product is excellent as far as I am concerned. The only thing was that it was a little pricey compared to some other brands, but honestly it's well worth the money if you want something that is attractive for what it is, durable, and at this point effective. I'm hoping this product lasts. It's also very compact which allows you to transport it in any vehicle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable, Inexpensive, and does the job. Ecobin works as intended. The mesh aerates compost well and works like a pull up bag, open on both ends. It comes with 4 pegs to keep it in a place. It is very light and easy to move around. The cover and mesh is held together by these four buttons to keep it in place. Simple and practical design. (See pictures) The only downside is that if you put light stuff like leaves at the bottom of this bin and then pile all the heavy compost on the top then the Ecobin is likely to lean to a side. The structure of a mesh-bin is not sturdy to maintain it's shape. You have to mix leaves and dirt to distribute the weight evenly.
