These hedge shears are great. Comfortable cork handles. Shears operate with a gear action instead of standard scissor action. Seems to give more leverage. Blades are coated.

At first glance, this is expensive...until I realized that Fiskar Quantum products have lifetime warranties. And the quality, action, weight, sharpness, balance and comfort is better than any shears I have ever used. This is such a handsome product I almost hate to get it dirty!
It has a cleverly designed "PowerGear Technology" that compounds leverage for effortless cutting (see attached photo). The aluminum alloy body and cork handles lighten the tool to 2.6 lbs. I'm an upper-body wimp, and this is a pleasure to use. (However, PowerGear is also available on the slightly longer Fiskar Titanium 24 in. shears that comes with a lifetime warranty, lower cost, weighing in at 2.25 lbs.)
The handles are extremely comfortable (although I rarely garden without gloves). I'm wondering if the porous cork will absorb soil and stains, however they do absorb impact unlike my old plastic- handled shears. The blade is sharp, cuts clean. with very little effort.
Happy to have this addition to my gardening arsenal! I'm trusting Fiskars and it's lifetime warranty to make this the last shears I'll ever need.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by signet Excellent high end shears
I was very excited to try out these shears and was not disappointed. They are light weight enough to not wear you out and the gear action cutting is smooth and powerful. The handles have a cork grip which is comfortable and I hope, durable. A lifetime warranty makes this a safe purchase. The blades have stayed sharp and do nice work on the hedges and other pruning. I like the coating on the blades and look forward to using these for a very long time. This is an investment tool.

These are by far the best hedge shears that I have ever owned. They are lightweight with a comfortable grip which appears to absolves the jarring when cutting and trimming. They are very sharp and has a beautiful design. Does an excellent job trimming hedges and scrubs with precision and ease.

This device did much better than expected. When I got it out of the packaging, my first impression was a cheap non durable product. I say that because the handles are made of cork. This lets it be super light weight....but it is cork! This however proved to be a non issue when using it. And I actually appreciated the light weight.
The blades however had me concerned. The package says it is European Metal...what ever that means. It surely is not steel blades. It looks more like carbonite metal or the fake metal you see on your car bumpers. But it does work....and quite nicely.
This will not replace an electric or gas trimmer, but when doing quick touch up jobs, this hedge shear does well.
As a side note -- read -- the packaging first. I casually glanced over the directions and failed to see that you snip the shear out of the packaging. There are two small protective pieces of plastic holding it in to its sheath. I did not do that like a dummy and instead unscrewed one of the screws and put it back together. Problem is...it took me almost 10 minutes to put it back together for one screw!!! Hahaha. I know -- pays to read the packaging!!!
I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome of using these shears. They are pretty good, despite my first impression.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Termie Good product, questionable value
I've used a number of Fiskars' lower-priced garden tools, and for the most part have come away impressed. I was therefore excited to try this "luxury" product from Fiskars. Overall, I am pleased with the performance, but I do question the value.
The biggest difference between this product and other products, other than the aesthetic design, is that it is made in Finland, as opposed to China. It is hard to put a price on that, and given that all of Fiskars' products have a lifetime warranty, I'm not sure the fact that it's made in Finland is worth all that much.
It is marketed as being more comfortable to use, but right out of the box, one of the cork grips was peeling off (the cork is actually a thin layer glued onto the handles). Furthermore, I don't think the cork added much value, as cork doesn't provide a particularly grippy surface. And that is an issue when dealing with hedge shears that aren't all that light - I was surprised at the weight, and sure enough, they appear to be heavier than some of the lower-priced models from Fiskars. In fact, Fiskars makes a hedge shears model that uses almost the identical mechanism, and yet costs 1/4 as much. Honestly, I'd consider that one before settling on this model.
The good news is that the performance was excellent, as expected in this price range. I had no trouble trimming a large area of ivy along with some tough hedges, and I even cut a few small tree branches along the way.
So, overall, I can recommend this product based on its performance. It is certainly at least as good as Fiskars' lower-priced models, but I'm just not sure it's actually better. If you like the styling or the fact that it's made in Finland, then it may be the right product for you.
