The reel mower reinvented. Reel mowers are a smart choice. Reel mowers are good for your lawn, good for your health, good for the environment and good for your budget. While most new reel mowers will cut well-maintained grass fairly well, unless properly maintained via annual sharpening, traditional mowers quickly begin to cut less well and become harder to push. All traditional reel mowers, even new ones, lack cutting power, jam easily, have limited cut height ranges and leave uncut strips under their wheels that make edging impossible. Fiskars StaySharp is the world's most advanced reel mower as it provides solutions to the problems inherent in traditional reel mowers. The Fiskars mower combines patent pending technology with superior ergonomics to deliver a reel mower with best in class cutting performance for a superior mowing experience.

  • Smart design of our eco-friendly reel mower offers a cleaner cut without the hassles of gasoline, oil, battery charging, electrical cords or loud engine noise
  • A combination of advanced technologies make the stay sharp reel mower 30% easier to push than other reel mowers
  • Patent-pending inertiadrive reel delivers 50% more cutting power to blast through twigs, weeds and tough spots that would jam other reel mowers
  • Exclusive StaySharp cutting system uses precision-ground, hardened steel blades to cut grass without touching, greatly reducing friction and blade wear for long-lasting performance without costly annual blade sharpening
  • Cuts all grass types, even tough southern varieties like St. Augustine, Zoysia, Bahia and Bermuda
  • 17 in. cut width
  • Limited 2-year warranty

Answer:
You can buy a grass catcher on Fiskars website for $50
I also have St. Augustine grass and my 11 year old can use the mower. Only difficulty he has is when grass is really long and think from waiting too long between mowings.

Answer:
I live in the north so none of that grass here but it does cut weeds that are fairly woody well ( I have large areas of my lawn that are just weeds toward the back). It will require a bit more effort put forward to cut but yes it will cut your grass. And there is no catch basket for this mower (its healthier for your lawn to leave the clippings anyhow)

The catch basket is not included in the mower purchase but can be purchased separately. My past experience with catch baskets has not been great. They tend not to stay attached.

Thank you for contacting Fiskars. For the type of yard you are describing, you may find the 18" a better fit due to the inertia drive in the mower. It will be a little easier to push over slopes and un even ground.
We do have a comparison chart that details out the differences between all of the models available.

Hi,

I'd like to know if the cut grass is distributed to the front of the mower or out the back. I'd like to leave the cuttings in the grass. Also, do you all have an edger?

Thank you!

Sally

Answer:
The blades spin fast enough to eject the grass out of the top/back. It does end up on your shoes but doesn't pile up in front of the mower.

StaySharp 17 in. Manual Push, Nonelectri Reel Mower is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fun tool This is the first mower I've ever purchased. It's been a joy to work with. Assembly is a breeze; I was able to get it up and going in about 10 minutes. I was fully expecting the front orange blade protector to be plastic, but instead its a strong metal plate; nice surprise. The height and handle adjustments are super easy to use. I've been doing two passes over my medium-size lawn, mostly for a "finished" look, but it does also help to cut down any straglers that the blades hit (I haven't yet taken the time to adjust the blades properly, so this might not be an issue once that is done). There are about 4 or 5 different grass types in my old lawn and this mower cuts them all well. I've had at least 5 people complement me on my choice of mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astonishingly capable. We bought this when we moved house, and we were too busy unpacking to get around to assembling and using it for the first few weeks. So by the time we mowed, the grass was tall and lush and we were sure we would end up paying a lawn service because the mower wouldn't be able to deal. Boy, were we wrong - we had it on the lowest setting, and it munched straight through even the greenest, densest patches with relative ease. I have since figured out how to easily change the height (tilt it over so there is no weight on the back wheels, then pull out each knob to slide it to the number you want), and mowing is almost like just taking a walk. We have rocks, and while the mower has stopped on those a few times, the blades seem undamaged. It doesn't take corners as well as I'd like, but the balance is so good that it is easy to push up our slopes and I, a middle aged woman of average fitness, can carry it up and down stairs with little problem from one terrace to another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower!!!! This mower is a great option for a smaller lawn although my lawn is large I can mow it in about 45 minutes. It is similar to pushing an old gas mower (one without the auto drive) as long as you don't let the grass go more than a week as I had done in this photo due to rain and sickness but it still cut through the high grass with some definite effort put forth. Overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone that has a small lawn and is willing to keep up on their grass by mowing weekly. It is high quality and seems that it will last for a long while with minimum operating costs (it claims that you only need to sharpen every 5 years)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Does exactly what I want it to do--cut the grass in my very tiny yard without using gas or electricity. I purchased a less expensive reel mower which was difficult to use. The handle bent the first time I used it. Plus, it got stuck every 6 inches. The Fiskar is a breeze to use compared to my first mower. It won't cut as close as a rotary mower, but it does a good job. Large chunks of mulch will make the blades stick. And if you're looking to win yard of the month, this isn't the mower for you. But if you want your grass to look good and get a little exercise while being environmentally conscientious this mower fits the bill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Updated Review I thought this product was the best thing since sliced bread until I used it for the third time. The blades moved and it is extremely difficult to get them to cut well. If you are not extraordinarily mechanically inclined DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The customer service is awful and the company does not offer a place to take the mower for adjustments. Please disregard my previous review. This mower is terrible!!!!! Again, unless you are a mechanical genius, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EARTH FRIENDLY AND GREAT WORKOUT! I've only used this a couple of times so stay tune for a future review...The item is easy to assemble and use. It doesn't cut dandelions and it is hard to maneuver on uneven grounds, i.e. big trees that have bulging roots in the ground. You will find that this is a great workout if you are going up and down hills. Found that I had a hard time pushing it uphill. I'm apprehensive regarding the quality of the wheels due to so much uneveness in my lawn. My neighbor was impressed with the quality of cut and overall appearance. Though a bit pricey, I think this will pay off in the end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The mower was easy to assemble. It's a little challenge to use as I believe that the mower is mad... The mower was easy to assemble. It's a little challenge to use as I believe that the mower is made for taller people. (I'm under 5'10") I bought it because I like the quality of Fiskars products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish I'd bought this before my last electric mower Over the years I've had 3 electric mowers that died after a few years use and a backup Craftsman reel mower. I hesitated to spend this much on a reel mower, but it has proven to be worth the money. My wife assembled it while I was out of town and we were skeptical of the plastic wheels, but it's been a solid performer. My winter rye grass is very easy to cut. Summer bermuda requires a higher setting, but it cuts evenly on one pass. That's something that I've never seen with a 'classic' reel mower. One big plus is that the blades don't lift up when the pushing gets difficult.
