Product Overview

The X17 Splitting Axe is an easy-to-handle, easy-to-transport choice for anyone who needs to split small- to medium-sized logs with power and speed. Like every X-Series Hatchet or Axe, the X17 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This combination of features allows the blade to disperse wood more effectively, offering more one-strike splits with each swing. Since you can split wood more easily with the X17, each job requires less time, less effort and less hand strain. Lifetime warranty.

X17 3.7 lb. 23.5 in. Splitting Axe is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp, powerful for size I was looking for an axe to split medium and large sized pecan logs. I must've misread the description because it's actually designed for small-medium. That said, I've been using it on larger pieces anyway and it has certainly held its own. Blade is super sharp, and overall the axe is weighted and balanced perfectly for me. I've also used it to drive wedges. Unfortunately this ruined the shape of the mauling end, rendering the safety cover essentially useless. Again though, I've used this axe outside the confines of its intended design. Had I stuck with splitting smaller pieces of wood, this would have undoubtedly completed the job, easily and efficiently.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy ax for splitting wood! As a not quite young woman, this ax is so much better than a big heavy one for splitting firewood too big to easily fit into my woodstove. It also makes really good kindling from the bigger pieces. When my daughter's boyfriend came over to help, he was splitting bigger pieces down very quickly. It's all one piece and very balanced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great for me I'm an "older" woman, who was told that I wouldn't be able to split my 4 to 6 inch dried elm with any kind of axe (I have had a 3rd degree shoulder separation and also have had other injuries). I am able to split them just fine. I have had problems with 8 to 10 inch diameter sections, but I think that's more my inability to swing the axe properly than any problem with the axe. I haven't owned it long enough to know how it will hold up, but I do know it will have to be stored inside due to the fiberglass handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptionally Efficient Axe This is an outstanding ax for dealing with firewood. I'm 67 and don't swing a long splitting ax as hard as I used to. The design combination of a camp axe length handle and a slightly lighter head lets me get good head speed to drive into the wood. The slick coating that's applied to the blade wears off, but there's still enough to help in the penetration. I was concerned when I purchased the axe and saw where they advised not to hit the hammer side of the head either with or on other steel. I went ahead and did it anyway, and the axe is holding up just fine so far. I also own the regular camp axe, and the splitting axe head seems to do better when the axe doesn't split the wood with the 1st blow. I bought the matching sharpener and it keeps a nice sharp working edge on both axes. I'm completely satisfied with Fiskars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool this is a perfect medium axe that does the work of a heavyweight. The design of the axe head gives you a combo axe/splitter that cuts up smaller pieces like butter. Does an adequate job on larger rounds as well. Best axe I have ever used.and it is a nice addition to my wood cutting array of tools. It can be a single tool that replaces many (like for camping or carrying on the tractor.) very versatile and functional tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best splitting axe on the market. Superb product, outperforms axes many times its weight and size. Much longer working time before the muscles start to ache !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for knocking down those wood chunks that are a bit too lg to burn I have used this product for the past month and I am very impressed with the ease with which I can knock down chunks a bit to large for my stove. Ideal splitter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One terrific mini axe! I bought this axe just for camping & light work at my house when I just didn't need to get my chainsaw out. I tried it out on a ~6 inch diameter limb that had fallen from our 100+ yr old oak tree & it went through it so easily. Unlike just a hatchets length this mini axe has enough handle to allow you to put some power into each cut. It is very well made, works great & I highly recommend it.
