Product Overview

Ideal for taller users or anyone who prefers a longer axe, the Fiskars X27 Splitting Axe provides power that makes splitting medium-sized to extra-large logs easier than ever. Like every X-Series hatchet or axe, the X27 combines balanced weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize performance. This combination of features allows the blade to disperse wood more effectively, offering more one-strike splits with each swing. It also includes our longest handle for increased leverage to maximize the power and speed of taller users. Since you can split wood more easily with the X27, each job requires less time, less effort and less hand strain. A lifetime warranty underscores its durability.

  • Perfected balance and power-to-weight ratio increases swing speed to multiply power, much like an aluminum baseball bat
  • Ultra-sharp blade with a low-friction coating and bevel convex blade geometry disperses wood from the blade for clean splits

Customer Questions & Answers

Is the Friskars X27 6.3 LB 36 IN. good also for chopping trees, and if so up to what width? Also, I am 5'8", would the X27 be OK for me? Thanks.

Asked by: Jacques
I recommend a chopping axe for chopping down trees. This is a splitting Axe. I am 5'7" and use this axe with no problem.

Can you use a sledge hammer for added assistance to split a tree into 3ft logs?

Safe for the axe to use a sledge hammer for Splitting an 8-15ft tree into multiple 2-3ft logs
Asked by: nick
No, you can damage the molded handle that is attached to the head if you miss. Why would you try to use a sledge hammer on a nice expensive swinging splitting axe like this! This is a swinging splitting axe for fire wood rounds. Spitting axes are not designed to used with a sledge hammer. You need to go buy several wedges to drive in a row along the wood grain to use with a sledge hammer if you are going to split long 3 feet rounds or longer rounds or to split fence post or rails.

I noticed the handle is hollow Does this weaken it

Asked by: Chollie
It doesn't seem so, I did over extend my swing several times and saw no damage

Protective packaging for shipping

Hi - I would like to purchase this axe and have it shipped. Would you please detail how the axe is packaged for shipment. Our courier company requires the blade to be protected by cork, hard plastic, polyurethane or similar material, with the outer packaging to be rigid : plastic, metal, wood, strong plastic or other rigid material. Thank you Nerida
Asked by: NKK
The blade is protected by strong plastic that also doubles as a wall mount.

X27 6.3 lb. 36 in. Super Splitting Axe is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 294.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds expectations Two things...full lifetime warranty and virtually indestructible caught my eye about this splitter. My younger brother...who thinks torque is an eating utensil...could tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer. My first six swings...six busted pieces of red oak firewood...I'm like holy smokes...my brother goes let me try it...I cringed...ok virtually indestructible do your worst...second power stroke he nails the handle...wow heads still attached third stroke same thing...I'm ecstatic...nothing but a smudge On the handle...it's Chris proof...even he can't believe it...all those poor handles my late dad fixed...all for nothing...busts thru tough twists easy enough...think you'll like it...

I split 40-50 cord a year by using a commercial splitter, maul and axe.I have used this "axe" for 30 days solid.I found the Fiskars X27 not to be a "normal" axe by any means...I found it to be well balanced and a perfect fit for my taller frame. There are by far many more one strike splits using the X27 VS a conventional axe. I found it very useful in "finishing" off rounds quartered by my Fiskars 8 lb maul....this equates to more productivity! I am not easy on equipment as what I have flat gets used.. and by more than one person and overstrikes abound as a result. I have no time to pamper equipment and the X27 is holding up beautifully! It has met my expectations and then some! I will be buying another!

True what they say, a much higher frequency of single strike splits. Most impressive to me is that large and dense logs I would not even consider attempting to split with my previous axes, I now find I can split most of them with this axe; although, not surprisingly, need multiple strikes to do so. Still, these are logs I would routinely be using wedges and a sledgehammer on. Huge time saver! Also includes logs with large or multiple tough knots which were previously not fun to deal with. Highly recommend!!

We are having no trouble splitting up 18-20" bucked up logs. The 36 inch handle is great for my 6'5" son and for the most part results in 1-stroke splits. The weight and shape of the head are ideal and this is by far the sharpest axe out-of-the-box that I have ever had. The only "down" side was that the long handle made splitting kindling a bit awkward, so I went back to the store and picked up the X17 hatchet version and, boy, am I a happy camper! Our friends say it's like watching a "bucky beaver" scene watching me and my son go through the log pile - him splitting, me kindling up the splits. We are almost through the log pile from the six trees and we have yet to need to sharpen either one of the tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great axe A great axe that splits wood easily. I took down a few black locust trees recently and had the guys leave a cord worth of 18 inch logs - they left at least a whole tree. I was previously using a wedge that was having trouble cracking into the hard black locust and would have taken forever to split the amount of wood they left. This typically cracks the log in half with two-three swings and breaks up the halves into smaller pieces in one swing. Very happy with the axe and would definitely recommend it.

Compared to my 8 lb maul it seems as light as a feather. When I first picked it up, I was skeptical that it would perform well. Being 5'7" and 150 lbs I'm not Paul Bunyan, but with this axe I sure can give him a run for his money. I'm using it on oak. I still have to use my maul, awl, and sledge hammer to split some of the heavily knotted oak. I was so impressed by this axe that I purchase the hatchet and sharpener after my first day of use.

It's scary how well this splits the gnarly chunks of fir and pine that I had all but given up on with my old maul. The first dozen or so hits went clean through the rounds and buried the head in the chopping block. Do be careful, if you're used to a shorter handle as I was you will have to learn the new swing needed for this axe. It is well worth it though, the extra length allows for a more comfortable stance which helps deliver better hits.

I am 59 years old and have been splitting wood since I was 10 using a maul. A friend of mine who has one told me to get the X27. Said I wouldn't believe it. If I had one of these years ago my shoulders and elbows wouldn't be in the shape they're in today. This thing splits like you can't believe. My Dad at 83 still cuts wood with me and can't believe how this axe can out split a maul. Believe the reviews. Buy one!
