Answer:
We recommend changing pleated air filters every 90 days. Certain instances such as high traffic areas, pets or smokers in a residence, or other situations may require more frequent changes, so we suggest checking your filter every 30 days for particle loading.

Answer:
Depends on how long you run your HVAC each year and how dirty your air is. I replace the filter around 5 times per year. I don't run heating or air conditioning around 2 - 4 months per year. Experts often recommend changing filters every three months.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hastily built filter with many defects and inconsistencies The filter material seems okay but the construction is terrible. On every single filter in the 6-pack more than one pleat was closing off the filter. These pleats cannot be moved since they are adhered to the side of the cardboard frame. All the filters have pleats so uneven that the filter material is actually touching the other side! It's all supposed to be exposed so the available surface area is maximized. It's the whole point of having a 4" filter and they blew it. It's unbelievable to me that this sort of quality is passed off as acceptable at any price. They are unusable as is and being returned. Don't waste your time with these because they're not worth the hassle to save a couple of bucks. February 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy these They're really 15.5 x 19.5 x 3.5 and will allow air and dirt to bypass the filter in a standard sized filter rack leading to eventual lost performance $$ from dirt build-up on the blades of your blower fan and in the fins of your evaporator coils. When enough dirt builds up you'll need service $$$. These filters seem like a bargain but in the long run they'll end up costing you more than you saved. March 31, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent filter Filter was slightly less than the nominal size, but We think it won't leak around the edges. Adequate construction. Easily inserted into holder. Previous filter had higher filtration, but Home Depot didn't seem to carry it. Recommend anyone buying filters to pay attention to the actual size vs the nominal size. We previously bought high quality Filtrete filters which we couldn't use because they were slightly oversize. June 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not true size (way too small) I ignored another review that indicated it was too small and paid the price. The actual dimensions are at least 1/2" smaller than stated in the title. I have a Honeywell system and this filter fell right through because it was so small. The Honeywell dimensions are really close to the 16x20x4 so these filters will NOT work. It's really odd to me that there is not a "standard" 16x20x24 size (like with dimensional lumber). Since I could not use these filters I cannot comment on their performance. Home Depot return to store was quick and painless. November 12, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Filter Is Smaller Than Described These filters appear to be well made, however they do not measure 16 in. x 20 in. x 4 in. As another customer noted, these filters are about 1/2 an inch shorter in all dimensions thus causing a filter to fall right through the filter slot. I hope the filter maker will fix the sizing so that it's a true 16 in. x 20 in. x 4 in. filter. My friendly, local Home Depot was super about accepting the return, and giving me an immediate refund. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 25 x 29 x 4 air filter The 25 x 29 x 4 filter actually measures 24 1/2 x 28 1/2 x 3 1/2. Ordered a case of 12, but received a case of 6. Called customer service. Because the order shipped from the factory, and a case of six was not an option from HD, HD offered a refund of half the price. I am fine with that and will re-order the same product again when I need more. It is a very good price. December 17, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Air filters This product was installed by my HVAC service. When I attempted to find it at HD and Lowes it was not available. I purchased the air filter stocked by HD. it was about a 1/2 too big. This product is labeled 4x25 it is approximately 3.5x25 which fit the box put in by the HVAC company. When ordering be sure you cross reference the exact product. That a little bit time consuming. September 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Filters are the same as A/C manufacturer uses The filters are the same quality as the manufacturer supplied with the new A/C unit I had installed. Their quality is very good and the price is 25% of the retail single filter price. So far the filter has performed as required by the A/C manufacturer. August 21, 2013
