Answer:
Hello, thank you for your question. It is a clear coat in the sense that it will provide a transparent coating on the wood, revealing the wood's true grain through the reddish stain.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Good Worked great for our project. Would purchase again. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Results with this product. This stain was great. I got the first gallon on clearance and ordered a second through the website. Went on great and provided excellent coverage of my deck. Looks great now after a power washing and staining. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by You know the old saying...'you get what you pay for.' Wow, what a difference this product has made in the appearance of our deck. The deck is made of 'Redwood' material. It is 8 years old. The product is described as a redwood translucent sealer. After a very aggressive power washing, I waited 2 days for the deck to dry. I applied two coats of this product, one each on back to back days. Product is easy to apply, and I'm just so grateful that Flood manufactures such a Quality product. This product sure makes the 'redwood' material 'pop' when visualizing. It is absolutely beautiful. September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great buy Caught this item on sale, very good for the price. May 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great deck protector--easy to apply Very forgiving by either roller or brush. Dries fast. January 6, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 1 year application holding steady This stain absorbs into wood giving good protection. Application applied after sanding of wood. One year into use has held up in climate of Denver with UV exposure daily. Works better than semi transparent BEHR products which peeled after nine months and one winter. November 23, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Really good product....for now! I purchased the stain on a sale (half off), which made it a great value and totally worth the price. Without the sale, the price would have been a little high, compared to similar products. We used the redwood color, which was true to name, on our children's play set. It's a great stain to work with; the true test will come with its durability. If the stain can hold up for at least two seasons then it will be a great purchase. July 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased Very pleased so far. Went on like a dream. Just hope it stands up otherwise NO complaints. Can't beat the price October 21, 2014
