Answer:
I have used this product when applying polyurethane on oak stained window trim. I learned this from painter. Add small amounts and will allow final cost to glide on without any effects. I have done this for about 20 years now.

Dear Flood, can I use this for the painting process described below to achieve a quality high-gloss finish?

On unfinished wood or MDF sanded with 120-grit sandpaper, 2 coats of brush-applied general-use oil-based primer, sanding with 220-grit paper between coats, allowing sufficient time for drying. Add Penetrol in the correct proportions to high-gloss oil-based rust-prevention paint. Paint three coats of additive-enhanced oil-based rust-prevention paint, sanding with 220 between coats, allowing sufficient time for drying. Finish with 400-grit sandpaper and then #0000 steel wool. Apply automotive rubbing compound and buff. Apply automotive car wax paste and buff.

Is there anything I need to watch out for? I've avoided using brand names but I'm sure you can figure out the specific common primer and paint brands I'm talking about.

Penetrol is to be used in a single component alkyd paint only. It is not recommended for epoxy or epoxy like paint.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by roll and brush like spray paint I discovered penetrol almost by accident. I have used it to paint numerous pieces of furniture. leaves no brush marks or roller marks on horizontal surfaces. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is the PERFECT SOLUTION for thinning your paint, when you plan to spray!! The title pretty much spells it out!! I use a high volume, low pressure sprayer, is this is the ONLY way to thin it out to the right consistency, without using thinner, which will not work properly!! Just follow the directions on the can, and you'll be amazed!! April 27, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is amazing! The additive is amazing on dull figerglass. My boat's hull was very faded. I applied Penetrol and it looked like new. Very easy to use. April 20, 2012
