can this be used with ceramic tile ?
Asked by: floored
Actually, tile should be laid directly on a cement based backer board (or cement itself), but you bring up an interesting idea. I don't see any reason that you couldn't put this between the plywood subfloor and the backer board if you wanted additional sound dampening on a first or second floor room. I don't know how much it would suppress noise compared to backer board alone, since the tile+mortar+backer board combo would provide a nice barrier without it, but unless someone has a good reason not to use it, I might consider something similar in my master bath when I'm ready next year. They also have other products for this purpose though, so i'd have to do more research to see which is better and/or more cost effective.

Seems like half the buyers (like myself) were suckered by their clever marketing gimmick in the store. Maybe it does a good job muffling bouncing golf balls but it does absolutely nothing to muffle real noises. I installed this in 2 apartment units and can hear nighttime SNORING coming from the lower unit. I have had it installed over 1 year now and am getting quotes on what it would cost to remove the flooring in order to replace or double up on the underlayment. The noise is driving me up the wall some days and these are reasonable older tenants-not loud punks. Please do more research and save yourself the money. It's all a gimmick and they fooled us.

As this is on the ground level, I can't comment on any "muffling" or noise transference. If using on a second story floor or in multi level condominium, you'll need something with heavier duty acoustic silencing.

I would have bought the 600 sq/ft roll had I known. I only purchased 5 single 100 sq/ft rolls but will be needing another roll.... Bad planning on my part.

It layed down easily but once it was down we walked on it with soft slippers on and it left a ton of marks all over the place. You had to walk very carefully or it would make a hole. It did deaden sound and served the purpose that way but I felt it should have been a little more durable considering the price. You have to be able to walk on it and kneel on it and move around a lot to install the floor so I was really disappointed in the lack of durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So user friendly! We used this under the Mohawk Duplin County Natural Maple flooring. Easy and does a great job of padding the flooring! We had used a foam padding on other flooring we have done and this was far easier and a superior produce. Seems much more substantial!

I was a little worried as it seemed somewhat thin and I had no other option when buying with install from Home Depot, but it's worked out great underneath click and lock engineered floors in a living/dining room. Would definitely recommend giving a try.
