Yes, that's what I used it for. A bonus is that I didn't need knee pads when working over this product - it's just thick enough to cushion the knees.

Answer:
No, this would not work, since an underlayment is meant for a floating floor application.
Nailing/gluing a floor does not require an underlayment, and putting one down when it isn't needed could very likely void the warranty you'd have on it.

The best solution for your down stairs neighbor is a nice thick wool rug or any thicker rug for that matter. If you place the rug on top of a Non-Slip Rug Pad that would be fine. Just make sure it is carpet to hardwood and not carpet t carpet. The tacking on carpet to carpet could damage the hardwood. See Home Depot Store SKU # 1000012308 to see the item I am talking about. You probably could, but I think there are better products for this purpose. We have a foam pad under an area rug on a hardwood floor that is thicker, and prevents the rug from slipping around.

Noting previous Q&As stating this product works as OR is in itself a vapor/moisture barrier. How safe is this to use on a 2nd story plywood subfloor even though it has a moisture barrier?

Answer:
My concern is installing in South Florida, where humidity and moisture are always concerns. I've heard installing an impermeable vapor/moisture barrier on a plywood subfloor should NOT be done as it could trap vapor, moisture and/or condensation in the plywood, which may lead to rot or mold leading to health and structural problems.

It is a multi purpose underlayment with a vapor/moisture barrier. It can be used in a dry environment where there is no moisture problem (such as upstairs plywood flooring) as well as an area where moisture may be a problem.

Yes - My son said he felt a difference right away. He said that his friend's dad did their flooring with plastic sheets and the floors were cold. The underlayment is like an insulator and it works great.

Yes. It creates a barrier between the concrete and the flooring. I installed engineered hardwood floors and walking on it barefoot in the winter it is cool but not cold.

It might make a small difference, since it is a foam-type product. Because it is so thin, it probably won't be very noticeable

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 109 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sound dampening!! I used this for my trafficmaster flooring (laminate). The install of this product is aggrivating but worth it in the end. You have to battle the roll on the floor until you lay your flooring. But the sound quality makes my floor soft and very quiet. I do not even hear a squeek with my floors!! The battle is worth the effort !! Home depot said this is the best of the best and I believe it!! February 21, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works well enough There was a display at the Depot where you could compare the sound made by tapping a wrench against laminate with various underlayments. This one did seem to have the most muffled sound. I was less impressed with the material and installation. The product is made with a 2" wide thin plastic flap and double stick tape system, which is mounted on the bottom surface, to prevent moisture penetration. While the quality of that system is barely acceptable, the problem comes with the 2" wide gap that is created on the top surface which tends to pucker up and create an open mouth with lips. I snagged those lips countless times with my knees pads and toes during installation of the flooring. I'd suggest using packing tape to cover those seams. For concrete sub floors they recommend running the padding up the walls 2" to maintain a moisture seal. Given the thickness of the material that seems near impossible to do, while maintaining a tight 1/4 to 3/8" gap along the wall using spacers. I'd suggest using more packing tape to install some thin painters plastic around the perimeter of the underlayment and up the wall a few inches. Then trim it below the top of your baseboard. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hardwood I absolutely love my floors. Everyone at home depot were so pleasant and professional. The installer was also very professional! June 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Floor muffler This made a true difference in the feel under your feet and the noise was much less. I put this in my walk-in closet and I really like it. I had previously put down the same flooring in another closet with the less expensive liner and you can definatley feel the difference. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We love our stone-look laminate flooring! We had the flooring installed, so cannot comment on ease of installation. It is comfortable and exactly what we were looking for. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Investment I used this under a floating floor (click bamboo). Easy to install and we don't hear a peep when walking on the new floor. Good to know that I bought the best possible product to protect under the new floor. I might not see it, but I know its there! May 10, 2016
