Customer Reviews

1/3 HP Thermoplastic Submersible Sump Pump with Vertical Switch is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One tough pump I purchased this pump in 2002 or 2003 because my sump holes are 10" and can only use a vertical float unit. My house is by the Susquehanna River, in an area with a very high water table. When the river rises, we get a lot of water through the basement walls, into our drain system, and the sump holes. There are times when this pump has had to operate every ten seconds for extended periods. This pump worked flawlessly during a flood in 2006. September 2011, we've just gone through a flood where the river crested at its highest level ever and that little pump moved a tremendous amount of water out of our basement. I've just ordered a replacement for this pump and for the backup (which never had to come on). After I replace this pump, I'm keeping it. After all the years of flawless performance, I can't bring myself to throw it away. One tough little pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sump pump for the price! This sump pump was a necessary "evil" purchase. I had 3" of standing water in my basement due to me previous sump pump's switch going up on me. The previous pump was the same brand but was probably over 10 years old and who really looks at their sump pump unless there is a problem? For the install I went from a fixed pipe system to a flex pipe configuration. I needed a check valve (not included, but only about $6), a few pirces of PVC to get it re integrated into my existing drain system, and a sump pump hose "kit" that included a length of flexible hose and two extra screw clamps (the ones included in the kit were sub-par in my opinion). Install of the pump, check valve, and hose took less than 1/2 hour and my only delay was in waiting for the PVC bonds to setup. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has a sump basin with tight clearance since the vertical float will never catch on the sides. Just make sure that your hose doesn't interfere and you'll be great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First time replacing a sump pump -- and it only took 30 minutes. A late December rain storm burned out my sump pump; which led to a long night of using my shop vac to pump out 10 gallons of water every 30 minutes. In between bailing out water, I looked up how to install a sump pump on YouTube. So by the time I got to the Depot at 6AM, I had my shopping list ready to go (PVC pipe, check valve, PVC cement, a Fernco flexible PVC coupling, and sump pump). Thirty minutes after arriving home, I was good to go. The hardest part of the install was putting piecing together the vertical switch. I still need to research back up sump pumps, but for now, I am dry and happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Garbage I have issues with water in mt basement and have always relied on the pedestal pump that was here when I bought the house. After years and that pump went bad, I decided to do it the "right way" and get a much better, submersible pump. Unfortunately for me, I decided on this little beauty 1 1/2 years ago. After just 2 months of use, the switch went bad, causing the pump to not turn on. I needed one right away so I bought the Flotec replacement switch at Home Depot and then contacted Flotec about it. They were apologetic and said all they could do at this point is send me another switch that I could use as a back-up. I wondered why I needed a back-up 3 months after installing the replacement switch from HD, that went bad also. I installed the one that Flotec had sent me and that seemed to take care of everything. 9 months went by and that switch also stopped working, only this time it won't shut the pump off. I contacted Flotec through e-mail as I did the first time. One week went by and no response. I wrote to them again and explained the situation and referenced the previous case number I had been given last time. Days later, i got a response that I would have to call them, they couldn't do it through e-mail. I haven't called yet, I'm thinking of just trashing this piece of garbage and going with something else. Don't waste your time and money on this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This pump does the job I purchased this pump as a replacement in a Laundry Try System with the vertical switch assembly. Installation was simple; note, pump does not come with check valve. Pump is strong and quiet pumping out the 5 gallon container.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed within a year Bought this to replace a working 1/3 pedestal pump. I liked it because it was quieter than the pedestal pump, and I heard that submersible pumps are more reliable due to them being submerged in the sump pit and cooled naturally by the water in it. This pump failed and stopped working within a year, causing my finished basement to flood. I have now since replaced it with a different brand, better quality pump. Don't cheap out on an item such as this. I've learned my lesson.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super pleased! I replaced an old pedastal style sump pump with this Flotec model. Assembly and installation was quick and it's about 75% quieter than my old pump. While you're replacing it, also replace the check valve and make sure you get the quiet type. HD didn't have the quiet type, had to get it at the other guys. I've only had it installed a few days so I can't say anything about life cycle but it seems well made. If there are any problems I'll repost!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from does the job but noisy we needed a sump pump replacement in a hurry so didn't do a lot of research on price, etc. Although we're basically happy with this one I find it makes an irritating high-pitched noise when operating. My old one made noise too, but this one is worse. It might just be I have to get used to it as I'm sure they all make different pitched sounds. Besides that, it was very easy to install and the price was not bad.
