Rated 1 out of 5Â by briweve Home Depot Stop selling this Pump
Bought this pump 2 years ago, never used it. But today I finally needed it and it failed. My house is cut in to the mountain and during Monsoon storms water gets caught behind my house coming of the peak behind me. If I don't get the water it will go through the bottom of my house. Had a bad storm today and hooked up pump. Darn thing worked for a sec and stopped, 2 mins later worked for a couple seconds and then stopped. There auto start feature does not work on this pump.
I really needed this pump as I almost had a total loss. But it did not work. I'm writing Home Depot to ask them to stop carrying Flotec pumps. You cannot sell a product that does not work.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Kenneth Years of reliable service
I have a recurring flooding problem in my basement. I bought this powerful little pump several years ago and it has saved my bacon many times! I keep it at the ready on a shelf strategically located in the basement and have a piece of garden hose attached to it. I run the hose to a laundry sink in my basement - I clamp the end of the hose SECURELY to the side of the sink with a quick-release clamp.
Caution: Make sure there are no kinks in the hose or that the clamp has pinched it off!
By the way, it is a good idea to have a basket (steel or plastic mesh) on hand to seat the pump in, keep it upright, and to filter the incoming water to minimize clogging. You can also use a 5-gal bucket with holes drilled in it. A piece of screen wire or rat wire will also do in a pinch. My pump so far seems impervious to how dirty the water is, so long as no pet hair or scraps of paper or other small bits of debris (e.g. wood chips) can get to it.
It's probably a good idea to keep an eye on the pump as it operates. I have been able to walk away and leave mine running for 5-10 minutes at a time.
As is always the case with standing water in a basement, beware of the danger of electrical shock.
While this pump is sealed, I wear "wellies" when working with it and take great care when handling the power cord and connecting it to outlets. I always connect the pump's power cord to outlets well above the water surface.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Armtek DO NOT BUY! NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE CORRECT!
Bought to drain a ditch around my house before the water got into the basement. I was concerned about the negative reviews but thought I'd get one and follow the advise (put unit on board, etc.). STILL DIDN'T WORK! Would turn on for the '5 seconds' to sense water and then turned off. Water was nearly up to the top of the unit. I left it alone for a few minutes, figuring it needed to 'settle in'. NOPE, STILL DIDN'T WORK!. If you're looking for a pump similar to this, go to L*wes and get #0435062, it's more powerful and IT WORKS!. Instead of wasting your power every 2.5 minutes to 'sense' if water's present, it uses a simple level sensor. Much better!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by JayAI build a filter and it pumps down to 1/4"
this pump gave me fits until i figured out how to get it installed properly. as other reviewers have stated, this pump can not handle ANY sort of debris or sediment or it will clog and cleaning it out is very painful. my solution to the clogging problem was to take an old bucket, drill it full of holes, place the pump inside, then wrap the bucket+pump with a high quality landscape fabric. i've been running the pump for well over a month now, we've had over 10" of rain, the pump has not clogged and has almost always kept my sump basin pumped down to 1/4" of water.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by chip doesn't work as advertised
Purchased b/c of the auto-cycle feature & pump did not run continuously (even submerged). Pump kicks on sporadically & runs for 2 1/2 min and shuts down. Will be returning promptly in the morning.
