I installed an outdoor sump pump and needed a basin with no inlet holes and a cover that would be strong and would not allow debris to enter the sump basin. This basin is very sturdy and, having no inlet holes, it allowed me to cut out a hole just where I needed it. I bought the cover and was disappointed that the enclosed screws were not long enough to reach the basin's threaded mounts and had to be replaced with longer ones. In addition, the oblong opening allowed debris to enter the basin, and it was not strong enough to place much weight on. I solved all of my problems by buying a second cover and four 1½ inch screws, and then placed both covers on the basin with the openings 180º opposed to one another. This resulted in a strong cover with a small 2½"x2½" square opening in the center for the discharge pipe. I ran the pump's electric cord between the two lids so it would not get wet until it had completely exited the basin. I am now very satisfied with my sump pump installation and would recommend this basin and cover to anyone with similar concerns.

Very well built/structured, but there is a 5 inch hole in the side (which is not in the product description). My application did not need the hole (I will need to seal if I don't return it). No problem for me but the molded vertical lip supports on the side are much larger than depicted. I'm not sure what basin this is a picture of, but it's not what you are buying (see my pic of what you get)

This basin was not as deep as I expected which means the pump runs a little more often which translates to money but I suspect it's negligible. But maybe not to everyone. The basin appears to be made for a specific lid but I looked all over the net and can't find it. The lid from Home depot didn't fit and I sent it back but I had another one which will work but not made for this basin. Other than that, it is made of that really tough plastic like they make benches out of, so it should hold up well.

This product seems plenty strong enough for for use as a sump pump/sump. Just dug a hole in the dirt basement floor, set the sump in hole at proper level and poured concrete floor around it. This sump will never see ground water, I installed it to collect water from a leak like a water heater or piping and not flood my furnace. I have not installed the pump yet but see no problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by James A great sump
This product is very sturdy and keeps its shape when buried. I used a reciprocating saw to cut holes in the side. The material is easy to cut yet strong. It has hard ABS outside and a thin ABS foam layer in between.

This sump is made well and is durable. The usual problem with other sumps are not present here. The biggest and best fix is that the mounting anchors allowed for cleaning and do not hold debris, this makes fastening the lid much easier.

I had a hard time trying to find a basin locally that wasn't very pricey. I ordered this and the lid from Home Depot and it was only about $42 shipped. That's a great value. I do think when you you order the lid though it should at least come with the screws!
