Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Flotec 3/4 Hp Sump Pump It looks really cool ... but can't stay cool I bought this pump thinking that $300 dollars would buy be a great product. The pump really does get the water out fast but falls short on staying working. This pump should not be recommended for use in your basement as a sump pump but maybe as a backup pump instead, this pump is very unreliable. The problem with this pump is that the float system is too short and the pump continually comes on, and since the sump is designed on ball bearings the pump heats up and overheats. It is a very powerful pump but cannot stay cool. This pump looks tough with all of it's crome, but should be kept on the mantel. Do not use this product as ur sump pump or u will be overwhelmed with migranes and stress. January 7, 2007
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No issues here!!! SUMP PUMP by Diamond Model 309697, using the same Store SKU #: 455160 The previous model by Flotec may have had issues. I bought mine after looking all over for pump with a vertical switch vs floating, and this one was recommended, so far a great product. July 21, 2007
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not recommended - bad float switches I bought one of these pumps in fall 2007. It seemed like a good pump and was quiet and pumped out a good volume of water. I initially bought this model because of the lifetime warranty, figuring that meant it was well built. Unfortunately, the pump went out in December 2010, three years later. The actual motor was fine, but the float switch stopped working so the pump would run continously instead of shutting off. I got a replacement under the lifetime warranty, but unfortunately that replacement only went three months before its float switch also stopped working. Incidentally, they changed the design of the float switch from the old one, but it doesn't seem to have helped. My local Home Depot no longer carries this model (they didn't know why) so I was able to get it exchanged for a Ridgid model instead, which is actually a lot quieter. It's only 1/2 HP instead of 3/4 HP, but it still seems plenty powerful. I would not recommend this Flotec pump - it seems silidly built except for one of most critical parts, the float switch. The Ridgid is $20 less and also has a lifetime warranty, we'll see how well it does. February 28, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great Pump -poor switch I agree with the other reviews that this pump works well... but the switch doesn't. Less than a year old and it just failed. The switch is no longer available (go-figure!) and the replacement switch is basically a generic that clamps on to the discharge pipe -it won't fit in my application so it looks like I'm replumbing in the morning. It's a good thing we have a back-up pump to get us through the night. I understand that things break -but it's frustrating. After spending over $200 initially and now not being able to get the correct replacement part... that's even more frustrating. April 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Potent Pump I just replaced a failed sump pump with this one. I was looking for a pump that had the vertical float that this one uses. According to my insurance company (who ended up picking up the tab for the basement flood) the more common "pig tail" floats are more often than not the cause of flooded basements. Three-quarter hp is overkill for my 10-head, but the lifetime guarantee that comes with this pump, and none of the others, made the sale. I tested it a number of times after I installed it (with the BigDog backup pump) and it power is pretty impressive. Expensive, but with the superior float system and lifetime guarantee - 5-stars! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Worth the Headache Bought my first one in November, 2005. My yard sits on a high water table, so my sump pump runs regularly (every minute, at times) from November to May. I thought this was heavy duty enough to hold up, but I have replaced this model EVERY YEAR since 2005 under the lifetime warranty. Thankfully I also have a battery backup pump. After six years of annual warranty replacements, I will be buying another brand and keeping this unit for backup usage. November 14, 2011

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Common Sense Review I have read people stating a dissatisfaction of the pump failing and the basement flooding. I purchased this pump in 2007 and it just failed today 06/04/2010. The pump is very powerful and does a great job while not making any noise. It did fail, but I had the COMMON SENSE to understand it was a mechanical product which would eventually fail so I installed a back-up pump the day I finished the basement. I have replaced the battery on the back up twice (every 3 years good or bad) as a COMMON SENSE precaution to prevent a flooded basement. When the Flotec 4550a failed I called flotec and they sent me to Home Depot and the exchange took all of 5 mins in a and out the door. The pump reinstalled with the same 1/1/2 inch pipe and all I needed was two wraps of tape to insure no leak. I reccommend this pump and guess what else i recommend?
