I have 4 sump pumps installed due to rock under the house preventing drainage. I have issues with cast iron pumps corroding and failing. Most cast iron pumps, I'm talking about high end name brand pumps, fail within 12-24 months. I purchased this pump because of it's all stainless steel construction. Two months of operation currently and It is working fine. Time will tell if this is superior to the cast iron models. I also like the idea that I can remove the float. I use my own system to control the pumps.

I bought a small flotec pump (pedestal) it lasted about 7 years. I replaced it with the same pump model, but it was manufactured in a different country. It was so out of balance, I had to get a replacement--the replacement was the same so I wanted the best so I got the flotec stainless steel submersisble--it was easy to install--it worked fine for a while and then It did not turn on and flooded the basement. everything checked out--power was proper--It just did not turn on. I drained the sump and activated the float and--nothing happened so I removed the pump and after a few more times of activating the float it started to work again. well, you be the judge---If you want the best so you can eliminate problems and it is not reliable, what are the options. Pumps with cast iron have bad ratings--so I guess I will have to find something else

The pump failed right out of the box. Would not pump anything but motor turned. Had to return to HomeDepot which are great.

I waited 6 months after installation to write this review. The pump worked right out of the box and has been working flawlessly since I installed it. The only issue I've had is that the starting torque of this fairly powerful pump made it "walk" in a counter-clockwise direction in my sump which, over the course of a week or so, then caused the float switch to hang up on the corrugated side of the sump well. This problem was quickly and easily solved by placing a brick between the pump and the sidewall of the well to prevent the pump from moving. My biggest install problem was finding the correct location and length for the tethered switch (I had to relocate the switch -- the default location was too high for my sump well), which I had solved within a few days of installation. Like I said, it's been working flawlessly since I did all of this 6 months ago.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by TonyA Not so good. Disappointed
I bought it as a backup. When I hooked it up with a check valve, it would not pump out the water. 2 other Flotec 3/4 hp pumps worked great. This particular pump just doesn't do the job. I am very surprised. Flotec pumps are usually very good. I thought the pump was defective and returned it, but the second pump was the same story. I will however probably buy a Flotec pump I have already purchased in the past.

This pump is very powerful and quiet. I use it to drain the runoff caused by rain and it needs to keep up with sometimes large amounts of water. It also runs cool which in theory extends the life of the pump. I like that it has a teathered float so that the catch basin can fill up completely before the pump turns on which cuts on the on/off cycling that shortens the life of the pump.I have only had it for a month but so far, I like what I see.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BoulderCO Excellent pump
I have multiple pumps in my sump pit since the floods in Boulder CO last fall, and during rain storms, the sump fills in 45 seconds (and still every 60 seconds when its not raining). I installed this pump 6 months ago using the "ION Genesis" pump controller which alternates between pumps. I like that I could remove the old-school float that came with this pump. The ION Genesis alternates between 2 pumps to extend pump life, and the other pump is a 1/2 horse pump (Basement Watchdog). When water is rushing during a rainstorm, the 1/2 horse pump can barely keep up (5+ minutes to empty the sump). This pump generally takes 1/3 of the time to empty the sump, and shows no signs of wear unlike my old cast-iron pumps.
It still uses almost 10 amps to start it (for those of us with a battery back-up), and has a side discharge that takes up extra space -vs- a top discharge like the Basement Watchdog (which only draws 4.5 amps - hence the slow pump times). However, if you are looking at a potential flood due to volume/speed of the water inflow, this is a great pump to have installed. Disregard that it has a 1 1/4" outflow pipe, as I also have a 1hp Flotec cast-iron with a 1 1/2" output, and this pump is still faster.

Bought this sump pump because it has a lifetime warranty. Have been buying one every 2 years and paying more. Can't really rate until we see how long it lasts.
