Answer:
The construction is similar to a camping tent with thin poles locked into place to support the tent fabric. I have no experience with the product but doubt it could handle any snow or ice load at all.

Answer:
This greenhouse has survived many Michigan winters, so yes! This greenhouse can definitely survive New York winters as well. The only thing to note is to keep the snow-load off the top, as this is a portable structure it is best to make sure it is secured and keep weight off the top.

“The simple answer is "yes", because we do have many customers in our Northern States that us our greenhouses over winter. With that said, to use any greenhouse in the winter you will most likely need to use a heater. A greenhouse by definition has no insulation, and once the sun goes down the temp inside the greenhouse will eventually mirror the temp outside. Our greenhouses are designed so that a heater can be used as needed, which will allow for over winter use. In most cases a heated greenhouse will shed snowfall, however you should knock off the early season/late season heavy wet sticky snows. "

Answer:
Our greenhouses are designed for portable storage, and ideally would be taken down in the winter. However, used with a small heater the snow load will melt most of the way and just be sure to brush any excess snow or ice off and the greenhouse should hold up just fine!

Two questions:
1) How much wind will this withstand without being anchored down?
2) I have some tropical plants. If I put a small heater in it, will this protect them from freeze damage down to around 15-20 degrees (F)?

Don't know about the wind rating. I anchored mine to the ground with 6" long nails and expect it can withstand 20 mph gusts but I do not want to find out.

I have placed a 1500 watt electric space heater in my greenhouse and on medium power with a modest thermostat setting I was able to maintain 39 degrees inside when it was 28 degrees outside. If the outside temp drops to 15-20, I imagine the heater could keep the plants above freezing if it was set to maximum power and max on the thermostat. Using this heater, I am concerned if moisture due to condensation or blown in by the wind gets inside the greenhouse or if wind or something knocks the heater over....might produce undesirable results. Do this with Caution. When it is raining, I probably will not run the heater until I have more experience with the greenhouse and can know how dry it stays inside. Read Less

Jeff, Our greenhouse isn't anchored in the traditional sense. The shelter is on a concrete patio about 6 feet away from the house so it does get some protection from the wind from the house. I have it loosely tied to a decorative fence but I have placed 2X6 boards on the lip on the bottom of the shelter and laid large landscaping bricks on them. (I think you can see that in the photo.) We have had some 20+mph winds, which is unusual in our part of the country, and have had no problems.
As to the temperature, I have one small electric heater and a box fan even with temps just above 20. With those, the temperature inside the shelter stays 18 or so degrees above the outside temp. We have recently had temps. We recently had a colder spell (temps to <10 so I added a light and another small heater. The temp is staying around 30 degrees above the outside.
One caution...when you have a cold but sunny day, the temp inside the shelter will rise dramatically. Just open a couple of the windows or unzip the top of the doors to allow for some heat to escape.
Good luck! Read Less

FarmHouse 9 ft. x 9 ft. Pop-Up Greenhouse is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 32.

It's not designed to last over a couple of seasons and the manufacturer admits that fact. It's a great greenhouse that keeps warm in winter. Unzip all the windows, and it keeps cool in summer -- even in southern heat. The supporting structure is quite sturdy and can last many years. It even withstands the very high winds we get in the south (with the provided tie-downs and stakes). The screens are kinda flimsy and rip easily if you're not careful. The zippers often skip their track and become troublesome to zip/unzip. The zippers and screens should be of better quality--even if this is intended for temporary use. They don't even offer replacement zippers or screens. IMHO, the manufacturer should really consider redesigning this greenhouse to include higher quality zippers and screens. Or, they should develop a new series that includes permanent windows and doors that can enable it to last many years. The structure is sound, but the zippers and screens aren't designed to last over a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love our 2 farmhouse greenhouses !!! We ordered these on line, had them in less than a week and the price was great, we bought two. We absolutely love them, they popped up in about 30 minutes, not hard to assemble once you get the hang of it :-) You can zip them together if you need to but we erected them and set them side by side, they are just what we needed, good sturdy covering and zippers. Tie downs work well too, yes, they were tested via all this rough weather we've been having here in NC. I'd def. recommend these to anyone wanting a small greenhouse for their backyard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The jury is out This is our 3rd of this size flower house. The first 2 lasted about 4 years each and were great...The 3rd tore just next to the zippered door while zipping it up...They sent us a new one and authorized return of this one...That is great service...We do have to return the old one which they authorized but we have to wait till the weather is conducive so we don't loose thousands of dollars worth of plants...We both just had cataract surgery and can't do any heavy lifting or straining and the weather is now too cold to take out the plants...I'm sure we will love it like we did the others as long as the plastic is as good as the first 2 were

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for headstart gardening I have a backyard that is quite an undertaking during the summer so the earlier I can start my plant projects... the better. was not sure at first but happily surprised at the stability of this greenhouse ..esp during high winds.I started my plants from seed. My plants did extremely well and I was able to regulate the temperature thru the little zip pockets. My healthy plants rival those in the garden center greenhouses who get their plants shipped in . I could even work out there during the rain. This is one of my best buys... no regrets whatsoever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well Designed, Strong, Durable I've had this for 2 winters now and would highly recommend it. We put our fruit trees in it around the first freeze and it does a good job of protecting them from freezes IF we also put a heater in it. Understandably so, it doesn't insulate that well, so the interior temperature will drop close to the surround air at night. However, it has survived several 40-50 mph wind storms with no damage. There are only two negative on this - (1) the installation instructions are pretty useless and (2) the screens puncture too easily. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars. Once you put it up, it's pretty obvious how it goes together and you can forget about the installation instructions. It's pretty easy to put up and take down. I don't care that much about the screens either because I want the bees to get in to pollinate my fruit trees in the early spring. It's designed well, there are a lot of windows/openings where you need them and the zippers are strong and well reinforced. Using this has really increased my fruit production in the spring with the extra heat that can be put on the plants in the early spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pop-up "Farmhouse" is great! This is the second pop-up "Farmhouse" we've owned. The first one just wore-out after six years of use. We set it up in the fall and move all the patio plants into it. Using an electric heater or two on cold nights we are able to keep all these fragile plants through the winter. They emerge in the Spring ready to add beauty to the patio and hot tub space we love. It is easy to set-up and easy to take-down. We love it. That is why we bought a new one to replace the old one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, quick, and functional The Farmhouse arrived ahead of schedule which is always nice. Quick and easy set-up by myself in about 25 minutes after reviewing the easy to understand instructions. I purchased the farmhouse to replace a three year old Dreamhouse, which is also a Flowerhouse product. The Dreamhouse was left assembled year round, which cause the Sun to rot the screens used for venting and doors after the second year. All other materials used seem to be good quality.
