Customer Questions & Answers

I have a Pygmy Date palm and live in zone 8a. With a heater will this greenhouse help it survive freezing nights?

Asked by: Austin
My SpringHouse is new so I my experience is not extensive but the temperature in Macon, Georgia recently went to 27 F (12/6/16) and with my Pellonis ceramic heater on the inside of the SpringHouse on low, the temperature inside was 52 F. Even if not freezing outside but there are cold winds, the SpringHouse keeps the plants from getting beaten up and losing moisture. Moisture loss can be a big problem during any season.

How durable is the shell?

I live in Ohio. I would like to keep the green house up all winter. But, I’m worried that the shell will not stand up to the winter. It can be both cold and windy. Will the shell get brittle in the cold? Is it sturdy enough to stand up to normal winter wind? I've see the wind spec, but does it really stay put up to that? Thank you
Asked by: JimF
The shell is like the plastic used in the clear, very sturdy beach and pool inflatables so I doubt it will get brittle but I have only had mine for a couple of months. The fabric is a strong canvas. It holds in heat and moisture very well. I added styrofoam boards around the bottom because I was skeptical about how I was going to keep plants from freezing but I have found that they are probably not necessary in my area. I used a Pellonis ceramic heater set on low when the temperature hit 27 F recently (12/6/16) here in Macon, Georgia. It was 52 F inside the greenhouse. It's like a bubble that traps in heat and moisture after it is secured to its base, and its a super windshield that keeps plants from getting beat up. Mine is on a patio with the bottoms zip-tied, through the bottom grommets, to the patio railings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Greenhouse I purchased this greenhouse a couple of years ago, and my husband and I just put it up for the third time a few weeks ago. I just LOVE this little greenhouse! We use it in the Spring to start flowers from seeds, and to get an early start on purchasing flowers. We use the greenhouse to keep them protected until the weather warms up. It works great, and we too, have gotten a lot of compliments on how cute it is. We live on a lake and we get a fair amount of wind blowing through in the Spring time, but by just putting weight on the outside edges (and using the ties), we've avoided any issues with the wind damaging the greenhouse. I am definitely glad we purchased this great little greenhouse! :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded my expectations! I received this pop-up greenhouse as a Mother's Day gift. I had been wanting a real one for years, so at first I'll admit to being a bit disappointed. Being such an avid gardener, I knew how poorly temporary setups usually perform. I was surprised how easy it was to set up, although the instructions could've been better written/illustrated. Luckily, it's pretty obvious where things need to go. I love that it comes with a very nice storage bag as well for the winter. It sits in my back yard, but moving it to mow is painless as it's very lightweight yet sturdy. It can get pretty hot inside if not loosely monitored. By using the included fabric roof screen, facing the door into the breeze & leaving the rear window open, there is adequate circulation to keep my garden seedlings from either heat-wilting or damping off without needing to check during the day. If I needed to, I could run a fan out there, as there is a handy covered cord portal along the bottom edge. There is ample head room. I am able to comfortably fit a plant rack & 2 folding work tables inside. However, what impressed me most was this thing's ability to withstand all the pounding storms we've endured here in the Midwest this spring. We do have it tightly tethered with the included ties/stakes, & when the wind is a factor I make sure to allow airflow through the greenhouse. But I just can't believe this thing hasn't wound up in the neighboring county or been ripped to shreds at the seams. It gets some protection from our fence, but in multiple exposures to winds in excess of 50 mph, hail & flying debris, it has neither taken flight nor torn anywhere. I could not be happier with this greenhouse & highly recommend it to anyone considering either a temporary OR permanent solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I held off for a year now on writing a review because I wanted to see how it held up over the long term. I am in my second year of using it, and despite what I have read from some other customers, the Springhouse is showing no signs of wear and tear. I have to say I am so happy with this item, and have recommended it to everyone. I use it to start my tomato, pepper and zucchinin seeds really early, and run a little electric heater to keep them warm during the cold nights. I set up five four tier shelves (two on the sides and one in back) and still have room to work. I have a big vegetable garden and I save so much money on plants now. I also have the biggest and earliest vegetable plants in Long Island thanks to this little greenhouse. It sets up and breaks down very easily, and has held up against some very strong winds. Overall, I cannot be happier with this product. As for the cons: I don't know much about greenhouses, but it does tend to overheat on warm, sunny days, and I need to either put the shade cover on or take everything out. I assume this normal. And the product shipped with no instructions. I called customer service, and actually got to speak to an American! She promptly emailed me a file with instructions, but it still left much to be desired. I was expecting some helpful tips, but got none.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! I was looking for something to house my tropical patio plants in for the winter in Louisiana. This heavy duty greenhouse is the perfect for my needs. The zipper closures are double-sided and heavy duty as well. Includes a mesh door and window for aeration and I love the the access ports for hoses and/or electrical wiring. As a 62 year old female, I am usually able to master projects, however with this one I had to ask my son to help me get it up as the tension on the rods is very strong. It took him about 20 minutes. It stands under my patio roof line so it is protected from wind. So far, it's worked out great for my needs!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Jealous Neighbors Set-up relatively easy for this 78yr. old. Well packed, good instructions, kind of a fun challenge knowing the neighbors were discretely watching. Material seems sturdy and after using the enclosed spikes to nail it down, has resisted several wind storms. Good ventilation with back window unzipped. Zippers are sturdy and seem well attached. Would like a better way to secure the doors when open, perhaps rolling and folding and securing instead of hanging loose. There are straps but I found them inadequate. Overall fun and looks good in the back yard. Planning to store it for Fall and Winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pup Up Greenhouse This was my first greenhouse purchase, and I must say I am pleased thus far. Many neighbors have complimented on its looks alone! I have planted many vegetable seeds and they are sprouting much better than I had imagined they would. It took a little practice on my part though ( putting the shade cover on and leaving vents open helped a great deal). This was a very good purchase , and the price was great! I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting out. It only takes about 20 minutes to set up and it does it's job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it so far I love this product. I am glad that I got the larger size, it is worth the small difference in price. Overall, the assembly was fairly easy for one person to do. I had a small problem with fitting in the roof supports but let them sit in the greenhouse a few days and the moisture softened them and made them more pliable. The moisture really builds up in there right away, and makes for a friendly atmosphere for my tropicals, who will winter over in the greenhouse. A further note--HD's competitor offers the same product but at a much higher price and w/out the free home delivery. I love this product, and I love Home Depot!
