How to change toliet tank to bowl gasket

Does the tank need to come off by loosing the three bolts? than can one get to replace the gasket?
Asked by: George
In order to change the toilet tank gasket follow these steps: A) Turn off the water to the toilet and drain all the water from the tank. B) Remove the water supply line from the bottom of the toilet tank C) Unbolt all the nuts holding the bolts to the base of the toilet or toilet bowl D) Lift tank up off the bowl and carefully lay it on its side. E) The Tank to Bowl Gasket should slide off the Flush Valve Shank exposing the Flush Valve Lock Nut. F) Slide new gasket onto Flush Valve Shank and stretch gasket over Flush Valve Lock Nut. G) Replace tank onto bowl, thread nuts onto exposed bolts and tighten tank to bowl, check to ensure tank is stable H) Reattach water supply line back onto bottom of tank, turn on water and check for leaks.

how do you change the bolts (whats the order of washers nuts & wing nuts

Asked by: travelingman
Thank you for your question on how to set the bolts using the 2 - 3/4 Tank-to-Bowl Gasket Kit. The bolt pattern for using the washers and nuts are as follows Place a rubber washer on a bolt and push the bolt through the tank, under the tank use a metal washer and hex nut to secure the bolt to the tank, place the tank on the the bowl, you shoud see the remaining length of the bolt under the bowl, under the bowl use a rubber washer, metal washer and remaing hex nut to secure the tank to bowl. Please note that on some toilet applications the metal washer and nut used under the tank may not be needed.

Customer Reviews

2-3/4 in. Tank-to-Bowl Bolts and Gasket Kit is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Discontinued?? WHY?? Why was this product discontinued? It has REAL SOLID BRASS hardware that will take a long time to corrode if ever. The replacement brand HD now stocks has steel bolts that corrode and freeze up so that you cannot get them apart some day in the future. The replacement probably generates more profit or gets a bigger kickback from the supplier, but look at the reviews and see that it starts to corrode in a week or two and if you ever have to take it apart again, you will have to put considerable force and strain on the corroded bolts risking breaking a fragile porcelain tank. Then you get to buy and install a whole new toilet. The trend to cheapen the quality of many HD items, to buy as much as possible from China, and to select goods by price alone will bury you. Soon, I hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product!! This product worked perfectly. No runs, drips or errors. Just make sure that you don't over tighten the bolts and check the tank level prior to final bolt tightening.
