Customer Questions & Answers

Water immersion impact

I have noticed that the top of the bolt inside the tank develops some kind of "mushroom" build up that appears with a dark amber color when it has been installed over time. Eventually over the years, the bolt will start to leak at the juncture with the toilet tank. I know that the rubber washer when immersed for a long time will eventually degrade, but I wonder why there is not any type of material for the bolt to prevent what appears to be water (or chemicals in the water) deterioration of the bolt. Are there any tank bolts made of some other material?
Asked by: dcguy
Hi DCGuy Fluidmaster uses only brass for its bolts which is a material that will stand up to the hard water deposits along with chemical additives that is used in most drinking water nowadays. If you have a bolt that is corroding it is a sure sign that the bolt is not brass through and through. Make sure that you are not using a bolt with only plating, brass plating will wear and eventually the steel underneath will corrode. Using Fluidmaster repair parts with real brass bolts is the best option.

Are the bolt packs universal for all toilets? I have a Crane toilet.

Asked by: wannabeplumber
The bolts are universal with most two piece toilets and should work with the Crane models

Customer Reviews

3/4 in. Tank-to-Bowl Bolts (2-Pack) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Brass Bolts hard to find These are good brass bolts the kind you want that won't rust in the tank, the rubber washers are ok, but I've seen better with fiber type washers, but the rubber type will work. I ordered "ship to store" since HD doesn't stock in store. When I went to store to pick up I didn't look close enough to notice some parts were missing such as a washer, rubber washer and nut. I went to ACE hardware to buy the missing pieces. No big deal since getting true brass bolts was really the important thing in this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Brass is the way. I had to replace the OEM brass plated steel bolts due to chemical erosion.
