Would this replacement fix the continuing running of the fill system,

or would I need to replace the Fluidmaster Universal Fill Valve Assembly. Also, how do I remove and replace the Cap, I didn't see any fasteners?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would like to thank Fluidmaster and JW for the information contained in their above replies to this question. My inflow valve just recently began failing to cut off flow with resulting continuous tank inflow. My unit is about 9 years old. I was thinking of ordering a replacement fill valve cap, which would have been somewhat difficult, as I live in Israel. Fortunately, with the advice of JW and the instructions of Fluidmaster, I was able to take off the valve cap, revealing a 2mm sized stone. I removed the stone, cleaned the seal and the valve seat with a tooth brush, returned the valve cap, and the problem was solved. Many thanks to Home Depot also, for providing this forum.

Echoing JW's review: Replacing the fill valve cap will save you four dollars and 15 minutes of work. This assumes that the replacement valve cap seals properly, which is a gamble. Like JW, I experienced leak-by - which means water is constantly draining to the overflow pipe. If you don't check the installation after 30 minutes, you might never notice the problem and waste a considerable amount of water. I spent 30 minutes driving to Home Depot to exchange this cap for a complete new fill valve. Not worth the risk - just resign yourself to replacing the whole valve. I don't know why Fluidmaster markets this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked perfectly The fill valve on my toilet was unable to cut off the incoming water, so the toilet was running constantly. After reading a bit of information on the Fluidmaster website, I determined that the fill valve cap containing the seal was likely the issue. This part appeared to be identical to the faulty one on my toilet and it took about 30 seconds to remove the old one and install this one. Perhaps I could have just replaced the seal, but it seemed easier to just replace the whole cap. Problem solved for $3 and quick trip to Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage Just spend the extra 4 bucks and buy the whole valve. I had a problem with the fill valve not shutting off and this should have fixed the problem but didn't. The valves are so cheap they're not really meant to be fixed. Even the instructions say replace the whole valve if it's 5 years old. There's no free lunch. Yeah it fits, yeah it looks exactly like what you're replacing but no it doesn't do the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great Although the toilet was 7-years old and the packaging recommends a total replacement of the mechanism if over 5-years old, I thought I'd take a chance -- despite the warning from another reviewer. I have other Fluidmasters in the house that have lasted for much longer. I figured that the potential work savings justified the risk, although I also purchased a full replacement unit just in case. This fixed the problem.
