A:  Hi, Kendra: I can't see any reason why you shouldn't, most fiinishes would appreciate a bit of wax and a good buff. It can't do any harm, and might even improve on the durability of the existing finish!

Q:Is this what I should use to seal a chalkboard that I painted?

      Answer This Question

A:  Wax is used to seal and add a finish to chalk paint but I would not seal a chalkboard with it. It would reduce the ability to write on it.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  Unfortunately, no. This Wax seals Chalk Finish paints, not chalkboards.

      by|Aug 13, 2020

A:  If you want to be able to write on it, no, don't seal it with anything! You may be looking for a very flat finish, but the Home Decor Clear Wax Finish will coat the surface so that it won't take chalk! I'd suggest you use two coats of chalkboard paint, if not more, leave it to set for a few days, and then go over it with some regular chalk, and don't wipe it off with an old-fashioned eraser like we had in school, use a cloth or paper towel to erasel I hope this helps with your project!

        nice finish
This is a cream wax not a paste wax like others. I applied the wax over red chalk paint with a rag. It did make the color more vibrant. Once the wax dried I wasn't able to buff it to a shiny finish. This wax does have to be reapplied every couple of months. It is an acceptable finish I just wished it would have buffed to a small shine.

        Applies and buffs well
Chalk painted two nightstands with FolkArt's white paint. I finished the project off with this wax. It was fairly easy to apply and buffs nice shortly there after. The wax has been durable in the last two months; nothing sticks to the table as well.

The Folk Art chalk paint is great; however, the wax sealer is terrible. After completing painting of an old desk and letting it dry for about a week before putting on the sealer. I followed the instructions exactly for applying the sealer, but the next day when I went to check on it, it had taken the paint off in random spots. You couldn't even say it looked "distressed," it just looked terrible, and now I have to redo everything. Will be trying a different brand that may be more expensive, but is probably worth the money.

          Nice shiny finish that protects
This clear wax finish really lets the color shine through and leaves a shiny finish. This wax protects and seals the object painted. This was easy to apply with a brush or soft cloth. Clean up is easy if done while wet. Soap and water are all you need. After the wax is dried, buff the item with a soft cloth. The wax should not be used on outdoor furniture.

          My Project Shines
I stained an unfinished entertainment center and finished it off by coating in in this cream wax. The five shelf project took the entire 8 ounce jar to cover. I used a shop rag to apple a thin coat, which mostly seemed to absorb into the wood, which had already been stained and sealed, and then buffed off the remaining amount with another cloth. It took less than 5 minutes per shelf to apply and buff. It looks nice, but to be honest, does not seem to add any gloss. I mostly wanted it as a protective finish anyway. It did go on clear, and I can hardly tell I put a wax on it at all. If you need to give your wood a protective finish without changing its look, this is the right stuff.

          Grainy
I used this wax over a chalk painted solid oak beverage cart. I applied the wax with a high dollar wax brush. It was very grainy in texture and left small balls of wax stuck to the paint. Before I was finished waxing the legs on the cart, the paint had started to peel right off (the paint had dried for 2 days before wax application). I had lots of chalk paint touch up to do. Frustrating to say the least.I ended up finishing the project with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax in Natural. It worked perfectly. I'm not sure, but maybe I just got a bad batch. I've used FolkArt antiquing wax and never had this problem. Regardless, I tossed out the clear wax and do not intend to buy this product again. Just my experience.

Easy application, needs 2 coats, very nice sheen!
this product was just what I needed. I have repainted several pieces of old furniture, hoping to sell it, and as I was thinking that I was done with the project, I wondered how much use it would be to apply a coat of wax, but I'm very glad that I did. It provides a nice cover for my chalk paint, gives it a nice sheen, and wasn't too much work to put it on! I've always liked the other FolkArt Decor paints, so this was a good one to try. I will be using this on all of my paint projects!

            Very clear
The Home Decor clear wax finish is easy to use and easy to clean up. There is no odor and it dries quickly. The brush cleaned off easily with water. I used it over a white chalky finish surface as well as a regular white paint surface and there was no change in color or sheen. Perfect for when you just want a soft, clear protective finish.

Great clear wax for chalk paint
This is very smooth and creamy wax for the finish top coat on chalk painted surfaces. It goes on easily and buffs to a smooth surface. This is a clear wax so it highlights the color without darkening. Great product that is easy to use.
