Product Overview

FireGuard E-84 is a superior intumescent fire retardant coating that creates a thin fire retardant and fire resistant barrier on a wide range of interior building surfaces. In the event of a fire, this product can prevent the spread of flames and reduce smoke levels to aid in the protection of life and property. When FireGuard E-84 Intumescent Paint is exposed to heat generated by flames, it swells to form an insulating char barrier that fire cannot penetrate. Without a source of fuel, the fire is unable to spread. In addition to protecting from flame, this char barrier functions as an insulating blanket to help protect the underlying substrate from the intense heat of a fire. This can postpone or even prevent ignition for up to two hours (ASTM E-119). Beyond preventing the spread of flames, FireGuard E-84 can reduce the production of smoke a leading cause of fire related fatalities.

  • ASTM E-84 class A and E-84 extended test
  • ASTM E-119 Wall protection up to 2 hours; floor protection up to 1 hour
  • Superior intumescences performance
  • Retards flames and reduces smoke
  • Use on OSB, gypsum board, plywood, structural steel, steel decking, PVC, ridged foam board, open and closed cell spray foam insulation and more
  • Water based; ease of application and clean up

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I hope I don't really have to review it It went up on the walls. I hope I don't have a fire and get to test it. Only bad thing I have to say is that I wish it was available in a smaller amount, I only had to paint a small room and now I have all this extra.. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy to apply Though I have not tested the fire capabilities, this paint is extremely easy to apply, very little odor, easy to mix. I used it to cover Foamular 250 that is installed in my basement for insulation. This is a much more cost effective option than sheet rock and certainly less toxic that spray foam insulation with an intumescent paint that requires vacating the premises for 24 hours. Only down sides are the paint containers weigh over 60 pounds and the paint is very expensive. But, I recommend it. June 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hard to paint over I purchased this product to paint over the drywall in some rooms I was remodeling to try and make our home that much more safe. Everything I read said you could paint over it and it would work like a primer. Wrong. You can't roller over it like you would normally paint a wall because the paint won't stick to it. The moment you roller back over the same spot it peels off. We called the company and the rep said we can't paint over it. They suggested a spray gun might work, but rollers are a no go. Luckily we tested it in a closet. We ended up putting many very light coats over it in single roll at a time. The rest of the bucket won't go to waste. We will be using the rest of it the attic where we aren't a painting over. So, we won't be out the money, but weren't able to use it for our intended purpose. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Coverage per square foot isn't the best, considering to get the fire protection they advertise it will take 2-3 coats at least with a roller. Coverage isn't the same for all material's either. Drywall only needs around 10mils of dry thickness while OSB needs 30 mils. Overall though it is cheap fire insurance to help stop spread of fire. I used about 4.5 gallons to cover the ceiling of a 25' x 28' garage with OSB. November 22, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fit the need No complaint by contractor who used. Fit the need. September 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer Beware Look at the testing certificates closely. This is not a code compliant material. You may pass it by an inspector who doesn't know any better but someone who does their due diligence will reject this product. August 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good product Goes on easy. How well it works? I guess if there is ever a fire I will find out March 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Coverage less than expected. Hopefully I'll never know how well this stuff stops fire. I just need to trust the technical specs. Coverage was less than expected. Had to buy a second 5 gallon Pail. At $350 for a bucket, it was a big budget overrun. December 23, 2014
