basically it's all in the question, we are planning on putting down some wood laminate flooring and from everything I can tell this would be suitable for it, or am I mistaken?

We would join the strips with some aluminum tape to make sure there are no gaps between the strips.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
thank you

No, it is not recommended to install hardwood floor in a basement regardless if you install this as a moisture barrier. Usually you install engineered or laminate flooring, with this underneath it.

It will work great on top of the wood subfloor when nailed down. The manufaturer's installation guidelines on their website, recommends installing their Moistop Ultra 6 on the ground in a crawl space before installing Aquabar over the subfloor for more vapor protection.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than felt paper cheaper than the fancy alternatives Recently installed solid hardwood floors in two bedrooms and used this as underlayment. Easy to work with, very clean and smooth so it was easy to move boards around while planking. Cheaper than a lot of the alternatives as well. Only issue I experienced was that chalk lines are harder to see and wipe off easier than standard felt paper. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by National Wood Flooring Association Approved Vapor Retarder This product is great in that it provides the necessary vapor protection when installing wood floors in rooms over unfinished spaces (in my case, the living room over the basement). It is an product approved by the NWFA as a underlayment for wood and tile. This is a much cleaner product to user over asphalt / felt paper, as the asphalt material is sandwiched in between to layers of kraft paper. In addition, rosin paper and felt paper are no longer recommended underlayments. A penny more per square foot compared to rosin paper. Product was shipped faster than the estimated delivery. Installation is a breeze, especially with the markings showing your where to overlap adjacent sheets (min 4"). No need to attach the paper to the subfloor, as it will be held in place with the nails or staples holding down the wood floor. I just did one line of staples near the middle to hold the paper in place. October 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aquabar B Put this product down under 1600 sq ft of engineered hardwood floor. Easy to use, smell was minimal compared to traditional tar paper and it did not mark up my walls. October 6, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good product at the beginning of the roll. Near the middle to end the paper gets ridges that do not lay flat. Good product at the beginning of the roll. Near the middle to end the paper gets ridges that do not lay flat. September 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hopefully a good purchase!! Two of the three rolls were usable but difficult to roll out, due to being crushed when shipped to me. I would not hurt the quality of the product. August 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aquabar B underlayment It is difficult to assess but came quickly and has a good reputation regarding passage of water vapor. Is it superior to #15 asphalt roofing felt must be left for the scientists but I know it is cleaner to work with and probably would not give off a tar like odor. Effectively this is an asphalt layer encapsulated in unbleached (Kraft) paper and lightweight. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect flooring underlayment Good quality underlay paper for solid wood flooring installation. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aquabar Underlayment Not much to say! Much better than the plastic rolls sold in their store at a much better price. You can easily drop a chalk line on this. Unable to accomplish that on the plastic sold at the stores. Not sure why they don,t carry it in stores(?). May 13, 2015
