I read the reviews prior to purchasing and noticed many which brought up the instructions. I kind of blew it off but they really were and it made the job so much more difficult. The instructions were photocopied on what I assume is an in house printer. Not stapled, off center, just very poor quality. In the end it came together though it didn't come to the full 20ft. Ended up with about a six inch gap between the last piece on the roof and the end. At some point I'll just cut a piece of sheet metal to cover the gap. It's a shame because the company could spend just a little more time investing in the instructions and the product could be very good. Additionally there were pieces that should've been drilled (at least that's what it said and showed on the instructions) and they weren't. One of the posts was damaged, I assume in shipping. Overall not a great experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased, but some useful follow-up to the consumer & supplier This is apparently a proven engineering design. My family had an almost identical awning and it lasted over 40 years; the updated version has much sturdier, thicker posts, but everything else is the same. This awning looks fantastic and is worth the price. A few notes: •It took two experienced people 3 six-hour days (18+ hours) to install. •The directions are NOT easy. I believe the directions should be updated with better, actual photos and actual close-ups (i.e. REAL photographs). Better yet: a DVD or YouTube video showing what to do at each step would literally take HOURS and guesswork out of the process. You almost have to STUDY the directions with the screws and parts in front of you. Not easy. •The directions early on ask you to put the hanging channel and front fascia together and mark every 12 inches to guide the roof panels later. We did not follow this at all and ended up having to cut the last roof panel in half with a jig saw to fit snuggly at the end. •We were not able to get the roof panels to snap in at all, but using a silicon Teflon lubricant, we were able to slide them. One person was on a step ladder to grab and attach one piece to the next and slide it in; the other held it up with a rake. They will not go in without lubricant! •The other reviews are true that in larger sizes, three, not two step ladders will be needed to brace the front fascia and posts. •I would also recommend a band saw to cut the posts. Using a hacksaw was difficult, time consuming, and not the most efficient method for straight cuts. Although the post is aluminum, I would recommend bits rated for steel to make it easier. I would consider attaching real downspouts instead of the recommended fascia drain. The drain does not direct the water far enough away from the patio and it splashes back. I’m presently updating to use real downspouts. Plan accordingly. •The hanging channel will need shims between it and the wall in order to stabilize it and keep it square during assembly. I left the shims in after it was completed. My thoughts are the less movement and more stabilization the better. I assume the hanging channel is to allow pivoting in case the angle is for a slanted roof, but after installation, I’m thinking no movement is better. •Also, do not accidently throw away the fascia dams. They look like random pieces of foam and are not well labeled. •Definitely not for the beginner, but I received estimates that would more than double the cost to pay for professional installation. Two or three people with basic carpentry skills should be ablet to tackle the job. •It’s super sturdy and doesn’t budge at all, but anxious about future heavy winter snows. I’m sure it will last longer than the last one, but may buy a few back 4 x 4 posts as temporary winter braces to place against wall, under hanging channel. Very pleased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Awning is okay, but difficult to install with instructions provided. If the company who made this awning would hire a professional to rewrite the instructions so they can be understood, it would probably get five stars from everyone. Overall the awning seems to be worth the money but only time will tell. The instructions lack information, which lead you to guess at some of the steps. There were a lot of screws left over and an adapter is mentioned although one was not provided and none are shown on the parts list. The panels will not connect together as shown and had to be slid together at the ends. Study the directions carefully and often and get someone to help you. This cannot be assembled alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I bought this one and little bigger one and I love them. The instructions were simple and clear. It took my friend and I only one day to install both. Its been more than 6 month now and no problems. In future I plan to get another but smaller one for another side of my house. Hopefully manufacture can give me some discount on it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's ok but there is not enough slope. Directions were written poorly, not enough slope. It is hard to clear out leaves when they wash into the gutter area.
