Is the lid removable?

Looking to put a pump in it.

Does the lid come off to clean the barrel?

Picture of the barrel makes it difficult to tell where the lid margins are if in fact it does come off.
Asked by: ronh43
Yes you can remove the lid. The lid just sits on the barrel and you can close it tighter from the supplied screws (qty 4) if you like.

Does the rain barrel need to be elevated off the ground? If so, what is the best height off the ground?

Asked by: BYrainbarrel
It is always best to elevate your rain barrel. Try to get it as level as possible.

How much water is below the spigot, which becomes unusable. at 8.3 pounds per gal. I would think tip the container might be difficult and cause damage

Asked by: pepperman
I have tipped the container without damage. It would depend on your base. Not sure of the total weight, but it is manageable.

55 Gal. Rain Barrel with Brass Spigot is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 224.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Rain Barrel Although I have no gutters, the rain diverter over the sliders produces more than enough run off to fill, and overfill this barrel! Next year the plan is to put one up higher on blocks to allow overflow into a second one and allow easier access to the spigot (it is very close to the ground, so it is difficult to fill a bucket using the spigot.) Also, once up at a higher level, attaching the hose will work better and allow gravity to help with the flow. Benefit is the cover being removable, so when the season ends it can be cleaned. The screws were left off (no safety concerns since no one here will be getting into it!), so the cover can be removed to extract water easier (once mounted on blocks this will not need to be done). Hopefully it will stand up to use for years...

We already have 3, two are joined together. It arrived ahead of schedule, and had all parts, including easy to read directions. I was concerned about the ability to "knock out" the connections at the top, but he said it was no problem. We immediately put it into use and it has performed well. It is located in a small space, but that is not a problem. I have recommended this rain barrel to others with no qualms.

Brass spigot is high quality. Dual overflow connections permit interconnection of multiple barrels for extra capacity. It would be helpful for the spigot to be lower so more water can be drained.

I've had one for 2 years and had no problems. I really solved two problems for me. One, I had water for plants in much of the dry Texas summer. Two, it resolved a roof water runoff problem since I can direct the excess water to a need place rather than the walkway by my house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaked At first it was great but within 3 months the barrel started leaking. Within 12 hours after the rain filled it up, it was 3/4 empty. It is very thin plastic and not well made. Don't waste your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've investigated and owned several different types of rain barrels in the past and this one is the best. Several suggestions, improve the quality of the rubber washer for the brass hrdrant. Also either lower the hole for the hydrant or put in a drain hole at the bottom of the barrel. I really like the overflow feature because I linked four barrels together and placed them at different heights which allowed me to siphon water from the higher barrels to the lower barrels using the hydrants. Regarding the hydrants if it was possible to put a siphon tube on these there would be no need to lower them.
