Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Happy With This Air Conditioner We use our two-car garage (that has no windows) as extra living space and wanted an air conditioner for this space but did not want to cut a huge hole in the wall. So we only had to put a small round hole in the wall for this unit. I am very please with the installation and operation of this unit. June 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cools well This unit cools well but due to it's size the unit it VERY loud. July 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This one can beat the heat If you have a small room to cool, or the outside temperature never gets above 90, you would probably want the "more efficient" dual hose system. But I have to cool 800 square feet where the summer heat spells get above 100 regularly. For that, you must have a single hose unit or disconnect the inlet hose from your dual hose unit. How can your compressor cool the air more than 20 degrees if you feed it 100 degree outside air? The single hose unit is like the recirc mode of your car's air conditioner. Feed the compressor the cooled inside air to keep cooling more. My first portable ac was a no-name brand that was DOA - never cooled at all. I'm glad I was able to return it to a store instead of trying to pack and ship the monster. That's why I chose Home Depot when I decided to try the Frigidaire last year, instead of some online-only merchant. I now have two Frigidaires, which I expect to handle all my cooling needs in the house. It gets humid here too, so I like the dehumidifier mode when it's not so hot. Yes, you need to connect the garden hose for both cooling and dehumidifying. Some days it can fill a ten-gallon tub, but if you give it ten gallons to fill you only need to check it once a day. This air conditioner is easy to set. Louver Swing allows you to point the air in various directions. If you set the fan to "auto", it will be quiet when the cooling is cycled off. When cooling, the noise is not too bad. In dehumidifier mode, the unit will set the temperature a little lower than it is and keep adjusting itself down until it is 62 if you don't turn it off (cold). The three filters should be cleaned when the reminder light comes on. You have to remove two screws from the back to get at two of the filters. I just wash them under running water and shake them out. If you have two units in the same area, the remote controls will control both at the same time, so if you want to run only one of them, you can't use the remote. The Frigidaire's specs say it draws 12.4 amps. I have my two plugged into separate circuits in the house and run lights, appliances, computer, etc. on these circuits with no problem. Two Frigidaires use about half the electricity of a central air system rated for my size of place. I only have one criticism of the Frigidaire. I wouldn't call it exactly "portable" because if you want to move it to a different room, you have to move the window kit too. The window kit is installed by fitting it to the window with foam tape and a bracket, and you may have to cut the main piece to fit a smaller window. It makes you wish extra window kits were readily available, which they are not. If you do find a window kit for sale, it will cost over fifty bucks. If you are looking, they are called "slider kit" by an appliance parts vendor in my area. February 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product I am really pleased with this unit. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it is a bit noisy. If there was some way to quiet it down, this would be the best thing on the market. It cools the space very well. September 16, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not good value no where in directions does this thing say to use a garden hose in cooling mode to drain, so not only did it soak my rug there are now lumps underneath( not sure what that is about) the hose does not attach to unit and plastic window fixture , needs to be taped. Cools ok but not a great value for the money July 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Air Conditioner The product is well built, performs well, and cools my office very nicely. Best of all, I don't have to pick it up and put it in a window! September 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Unit Purchased two units. Replaced window units. September 16, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Well I have had this unit all summer now and it works every bit as well as the window unit it replaced. The biggest plus is that I do not have to pick it up! August 17, 2014
