Answer:
Yes it comes with a standard 3 prong cord/plug. You must have a grounded outlet in the small cabinet above the microwave. If you do not have an outlet, one will need to be installed.

Over-the-range microwaves are plugged into a standard electrical outlet. If there is no outlet within 2 feet of the installation location, you will need an electrician to install one.

Answer:
It has a plug. If your house has a wire, it is really easy to install a box and outlet. Home Depot sells a blue electric box with a sleeve to the side that you can screw into the stud. First you need to open the hole for the box.

This microwave has a three prong plug that plugs into an electrical outlet (duplex). It is recommended to place an outlet in the cupboard above the microwave if you do not have one already. You drill a hole in the base of the cupboard and pull the plug through. .

Great question and I have to tell you I am not an expert here, but I do have some experiences to share. I purchased a GE Adora over-the-range microwave and later realized the lighting is horrible! It's barely a nightlight (relative to 10watts if that helps). I took it apart thinking a bulb was missing, etc, but nothing. When I purchased an over-the-range for my second home, lighting was at the top of my "needs" list. The Whirlpool unit has a true cooking light (or what I assume is a cooking light) - it's closer to the illumination of a 40 to 60 watt incandescent (hope that was spelled correctly).
Hope my experience is helpful

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 467 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Died after two years I liked it when I first bought it. The defrost feature works very well for defrosting meats. It cooks well. It cleans up easily. The beeping when the cycle finishes is exceptionally loud, and does not stop when the door is opened. You must hit cancel before opening the door. I would have accepted that, because it is otherwise okay. The light over the stove is good, and the fan works well. However, it has stopped heating after only two years of use. I was careful with it, and followed all instructions for its use, but it stopped heating nonetheless. I am going to try to fix it myself by installing a new diode (about $20). If that doesn't work, then it will need a $100 new magnetron. This should not be happening on a two year old unit. If you buy one as I did to match a new Fridgedaire range, be sure to get the extended warranty. I am experienced in DIY electrical repair. Don't try to fix your own microwave if you are not, it can be fatal. I am very disappointed with this machine. July 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This BEEP is a BEEP loud BEEP microwave The product works and food is heated up but the decision to make three loud beeps sound at the end of cooking, followed by three more in a few minutes, is truly mind-boggling. These beeps cannot be stopped by opening the door of the microwave (?!) and instead you must hit the cancel button. August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Accidentally delivered damaged I am sure that this is a very good microwave. Mine was delivered damaged. It appears that the microwave was mistakenly reboxed as new after being returned previously. Someone had attempted to install the unit and had dented it severely. I drove it to my local Home Depot store where Bill T., a manager apologized profusely and insisted on refunding my purchase price and making things right. Local store A+, .com B-. Accidents happen but inspect your product as soon as it is delivered. July 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a microwave... I've seen people complaining about the noise when it stops that keeps beeping. All you have to do is hit STOP/CANCEL and the beeps end. They are a bit loud though. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Micro I like the microwave. It looks good and works well July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Endless Annoying Beeping It's difficult to say anything good because I can't get past the incessant beeping. Three very long beeps at the end of cooking followed by three more beeps a few minutes after that and so on continuing endlessly. You would think that opening the door and removing the food would end the beeping. NO! The beeping continues unless you press cancel! Why? What is the point of that? I paid thousands extra to upgrade the Frigidaire appliances in my new home. The stainless set is beautiful. I love everything except the microwave... The hood microwave is horrendous due to the noise pollution it fills my new, otherwise serene, home with. It's been two months. I'm going shopping today to replace it. I now have a negative attitude towards the Frigidaire brand. June 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dead after only 2 years. Only lasted two years! Honestly, it's in the unit we rent out so don't know about performance, just that it only lasted two years. July 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by All Show and No Go! Power levels are minimal, takes longer to cook an item. The stainless steel looks good. The controls are ok but you can't stop the buzzer when it ends even when you open the door, and they are 4 long beeps. After a year, the door is starting to drop down due to it's own weight. Payed over $215 but it is worth maybe $140. June 27, 2016
