How many fan speeds does this AC unit have?

This question is from 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner
Asked by
Portland, Oregon

March 16, 2015
The product Overview says this AC has 3 fan speeds, but the Specifications say is only has 2 fan speeds.

So, which is it, 2 fan speeds or 3?

I must say, the specification lists for many of the appliances these days often read the same for very different units. In other words, the specifications often look like they are copied and pasted from some other AC unit.

It's disappointing to see how people misrepresent many things these days, things like appliances. However, I do find the Home Depot website to be much more reliable and user friendly that the Sears website. There specifications usually just say something like 'window air conditioner'. Really!

Answer:
High, low, auto (either high or low will be selected by the circuitry depending on how far away from the set temp on the unit that the room temp actually is sensed at. Like 10 degrees apart and high will run. Like 2-3 degrees apart low will run.

5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Air Conditioner This is a great air conditioner! I bought this for my bathroom, 7' x 11' and it's perfect. It's very quiet when it kicks in and maintains it's temperature setting. I keep my at 72° or I would freeze. For those of you who like to sit and read......you'll need a sweater! Keeping my door open does not affect the temp. Steam doesn't create any problems. I have a very sm. window, 17" wide and it just fit. I had to cut the side panels where they touched each other in the middle so it would be air tight, not sure if it will come back out...ha! I just love it! One big problem I have is........WHY AREN'T THEY AVAILABLE IN 8000 BTU'S? Or 6000 btu's. WHY ARE THEY SOLD OUT ON LINE AND WHY ARE THEY NOT IN THE STORES? COME ON PEOPLE SATISFY YOUR COSTOMERS! I really like the style, and the remote is great, better than the flat remotes. I have 2 other fridgidaire's, but this little guy gives it's all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1850 Sq. Ft. 2 story House perfect w/ 4 I put 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs (bedrooms), two far east side rooms, two farthest west side rooms. Put them on energy saver 68, auto fan. +90 outside and typically only 2 are sometimes running and always to the east in the morning and to the west in the afternoon. On my second year of flawless operation. Washing the filters once a month is essential. I ran a new 20A lines for each with their own breaker in the distribution box but that was ridiculous overkill since they draw 4.8 amps max.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This A/C unit is so quiet, efficient and easy to use, I bought a second unit. I was impressed with all the hardware and instructions to do this job, it was very easy to Install. It took me about 1 hour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good purchase Easy to install. light weight. Works very nice., not much noise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from just what i was looking for... installation was a snap... remote control good... automatic function very usefull... just short of an energy star rating, but close enough... i believe the model has been split in the new year... for $149 you get same unit but not digital... for @$175 you get digital and remote control and breaks thru for the energy star rating.... i'm sure the guts are the same and a good value..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good purchase. The ac was for one of the bedrooms that was being remodeled. It is very, very quiet which is of prime importance in a bedroom. It was easy to install and it looks like it belongs there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the righ size I needed a bit more cooling in a large room on the sunny side of the house and this unit was the perfect size. It lowers the overall temp several degrees and little additional cost. I use the A/C sparingly during the day and it's been a big help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! Although it's small, it really cools my bedroom. Since it doesn't weigh much, it was an easy installation. The remote makes it exceptionally easy to change settings without needing to get out of bed. I love it!
