Customer Questions & Answers

Does the fan shut off when the RH is reached, or does it always keep blowing air?

Other brands keep running constantly, and my old one just shuts off.
Asked by: BTOutdoors
I just replaced an older model of this same machine from same company. Both fan and compressor stopped when the desired humidity was reached. It was great. This new one, as the company rep writes below, has a fan that never turns off (except in extreme cases of differential setting between room humidity and setting humidity, as one reviewer notes) . Why they designed this this way (and called it energy efficient) is beyond me. The old one worked fine shutting off and coming back on without having to run 24-7 to "sample the humidity". I also have a small electronic humidity gage in the room that doesn't have to have a fan on to read the humidity. This is a poor design.

Can it be used without the drain hose and emptied by the bucket instead ? Does the signal go off when full ?
Asked by: LauraL
Yes, I currently use mine with the bucket collection. A light blinks when the bucket is full. However, I just posted a review that I found the bucket capacity to be much less than listed in the specifications given here. I have the exact same model and the bucket only holds 13.25 pints and that is less than either of my two previous dehumidifiers. I have to empty it three times a day (so it does do a good job dehumidifying, but you have to empty it more often)

Will using this unit have a noticeable increase in my electric bill?

Asked by: Oliver
A dehumidifier will jack up your electrical usage more than you think. We have this, energy star, I'm concerned. In the early spring without AC or furnace we use around 6 or 7 KWH per day. Granted that's really low. in the winter with the LP furnace and dehumidifier going 6 hours or so a day usage is closer to16 KWH. We have a humidity problem and this really isn't taking care of it. The house is about 28' X 40' 1-floor with walkout basement.

What is the bucket capacity in pints? Home Depot specs say 16.3 but other sites say 13.1
Asked by: Michele
I measured the bucket capacity myself and came up with 13.25 pints...212 ounces

This dehumidifier is being used in our basement and is working as we had hoped. When I'm washing/drying clothes, the unit senses the moisture and kicks on. The machine is so quiet, one will barely know it's on. My other dehumidifier had a low, medium, and high fan but I could not recognize the different. This one I can hear the fan increasing or decreasing in speed.

The dehumidifier is in a basement location were there is a sump pump thus a lot of moisture in the air. The humidifier draws moisture from the air very well I do not do any adjustments to the humidifier. I empty it and let it run until it is full and empty it again. To me the machine is very efficient and does dry the air significantly. I know because if we leave the house for a few days I turn it off and upon return the air is noticeably moist again. We have had it for several months and it does not stop due to temperature changes. In the Spring I will see if this is still the case when the furnace does not run as often and the air temperature lowers. I am sure that it will not be overly sensitive to temperature changes. this is the feature that I value the most.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance but sloppy assembly I have had the unit for about a month now and it works well. Runs very quiet compared to my old one and does the job it is supposed to do. Just wish it was Energy Star qualified but it doesn't seem to be too bad on the electric bill. My one beef is (what I assume) purely cosmetic. Where the two main parts of the housing were joined on the side it doesn't fit properly, as if one "tongue" wasn't put into a "groove" properly. I've tried to fix it but it's too tight a fit. Again, this is likely just a cosmetic issue, but it does seem to reflect sloppy workmanship - how did the assembler think this was OK to pass along and box up to send?? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Replacement About a month ago I bought this one to replace my old Frigidaire dehumidifier (which was quite the workhorse), as I keep it running year round in my basement. Within a half hour of plugging it in, the RH was down to 40% (where I like it to be) and has pretty much stayed there, since. A dry basement is critical in my house, and this dehumidifier fits the bill. I wouldn't consider any other brand, as after 17 years, I've had nothing but good luck with these units. It runs very quiet, my last one sounded like a bucket of bolts. I love the idea with a window on the front that I can see how much water is being collected. Also, once it reaches my setting, it will shut off and then restart when the humidity rises again. I love the flashing blue bar telling me when it's full. I just take a look at it and know it's full, I don't have to run over and look at the top setting to read bucket full.

Noise is around the max level indicated in the spec (measured by my iPhone app) under medium fan speed. I put on a timer switch and it works perfectly (powers on by itself). The full tank indication light is very useful, a well designed product in overall. I searched through many makes and models, this is on the higher side price wise but is surely one of the best available.
