Answer:
Hi Linda,
Great question! In the "cooling" mode the appliance must be placed close to a window or opening so that the warm exhaust air can be ducted outside. We hope this information is of assistance.
Thank you

Answer:
No it does not have to be installed in a window. I cut an appropriate size hole in an exterior wall to vent it to the outside, and attached the window venting kit that came with the unit directly to the wall. That made it very easy to hook up and unhook.

Hello Deb,
Unit model FRA093PT1 is portable and therefore is not designed for the installation in a window. It is considered a freestanding unit.

We have a home that was built in 1800's and the windows are tall and narrow. Is there a smaller sliding window kit available? This one is too wide. Can one be cut out of cardboard?

Answer:
Hey Theresa! We do not offer a smaller window kit on the air conditioner FRA093PT1. You should not cut a filler kit out of cardboard as that may not be sturdy enough to handle the exhaust hose. We hope this information is helpful to your shopping experience. –Thanks!-

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 46 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful and effective Weve been using this on a third floor bedroom during the hottest summer in history. It works very well however it is a little loud and cumbersome. Because the vent must be placed in a window and the tube is relatively short, it is in an awkward spot. Overall it was a great value. August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great This unit works great and more than cools down the room. Had to make my own exhaust panel for a crank out casement window. July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the cost I bought it 4 month ago for the bedroom because I did not want to put the home AC on when other are not hot. it was easy to assemble the hole to the widow. It work very well. my room get comfortable at the temperature that fit me. June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Working pretty good so far I bought this a few months ago, I haven't had to use it much, but it's working good. I love that I don't need to put water in it constantly like my other one. Also I like the auto setting that keeps the temperature at what you select. It is a little noisy, but for the price I can live with it. And when the temp. hit in the high 80's it will be my best friend. May 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cools outbuilding well - need better drain info I bought this system last summer to keep an 400 sq ft outbuilding cool enough to keep our chest freezer and beer brewing / wine storage happy. The building has casement windows, which make a standard window AC unusable. Setting up the exhaust was pretty straightforward, using the supplied window slider kit, attached at the bottom of a 1/2" piece of blueboard which replaces the screen on the casement window. When the compressor runs, the air is cold and easily cools the room. I have to leave a second window cracked open to provide intake air for the system to exhaust. Unlike some other reviewers, I have had no issues with the connecting and disconnecting the exhaust system. My confusion is around the drain. I don't understand why there are two separate drains, and the manual doesn't do a good job explaining it. Although the manual says the upper drain is for the Dry mode, water seems to come out of it during the Cool cycle as well. The drain tube must slope downward - any water held in the tube seems to prevent the compressor from running. The thermostat seems a bit off - after turning on the system, the compressor will start up at the target temperature, but after running awhile the room temperature will creep up above the target by several degrees and I have to decrease the temperature setting below the target temperature in order for the compressor to start. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by it really duck When we open the box it look good but it was blowing hot air not cold March 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate Bought this because of an unusual heat wave in the usually-temperate San Francisco Bay Area. Normally, a/c just isn't needed. We used it to cool a small 2-bedroom apartment, which is above its pay grade, but then, what's "hot" to us doesn't compare to the load it would bear to cool one small room in Dallas or Tampa. It was easy to set up. Frigidaire was good about replacing parts that were damaged in transit, due to poor quality packaging. It does an OK job cooling the room it's in, especially with the head start it got by the nights dropping into the low 60s. Downsides are that it's noisy and the venting system is pretty ugly. It doesn't blow ice-cold at any setting. October 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice And Cool I bought my A/C during the worst days of summer. I was very impressed on how it kept our master room nice and cool. December 17, 2015
