Customer Questions & Answers

Can I install in my windowless garage . . . if so, how?

Asked by: Anonymous
I installed it in my workshop that also does not have any windows. I cut a hole in an exterior wall to vent the the AC exhaust which was not that difficult to do. Attached the plastic parts used to vent it out a window directly to the wall. That made hooking it up to the wall very easy. And it is also very easy to unhook. Keep in mind this has to be vented or the hot air coming from the back of the unit will actually raise the temp of the room.

Do you have to install it in a window?

Asked by: Anonymous
No it does not have to be installed in a window. I cut an appropriate size hole in an exterior wall to vent it to the outside, and attached the window venting kit that came with the unit directly to the wall. That made it very easy to hook up and unhook.

Is there a smaller sliding window kit available?

We have a home that was built in 1800's and the windows are tall and narrow. Is there a smaller sliding window kit available? This one is too wide. Can one be cut out of cardboard?
Asked by: theresa
Hey Theresa! We do not offer a smaller window kit on the air conditioner FRA093PT1. You should not cut a filler kit out of cardboard as that may not be sturdy enough to handle the exhaust hose. We hope this information is helpful to your shopping experience. –Thanks!-

9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cools outbuilding well - need better drain info I bought this system last summer to keep an 400 sq ft outbuilding cool enough to keep our chest freezer and beer brewing / wine storage happy. The building has casement windows, which make a standard window AC unusable. Setting up the exhaust was pretty straightforward, using the supplied window slider kit, attached at the bottom of a 1/2" piece of blueboard which replaces the screen on the casement window. When the compressor runs, the air is cold and easily cools the room. I have to leave a second window cracked open to provide intake air for the system to exhaust. Unlike some other reviewers, I have had no issues with the connecting and disconnecting the exhaust system. My confusion is around the drain. I don't understand why there are two separate drains, and the manual doesn't do a good job explaining it. Although the manual says the upper drain is for the Dry mode, water seems to come out of it during the Cool cycle as well. The drain tube must slope downward - any water held in the tube seems to prevent the compressor from running. The thermostat seems a bit off - after turning on the system, the compressor will start up at the target temperature, but after running awhile the room temperature will creep up above the target by several degrees and I have to decrease the temperature setting below the target temperature in order for the compressor to start.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought 2. One is working great I bought two of the same units in late March, and one is still great. The other stopping cooling around October. The fan still worked but the cooling would not come on. I returned that one. The one I still have is just fine. It cools the room it's in no problem, and it would probably cool a larger room fine too. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Frigidare I set it up on a day which just happened to be a near record 108 and it came through with flying colors. The unit itself is well designed and has a solid feel to it. Easy to operate and set up. My only complaint is with the window adaptor kit which could have been designed much better. I ended up fabricating my own in 15 minutes using some leftover plywood. While that was an annoyance nothing can take away from the unit itself which did the job. I am ready for 100 degree summers in Sacramento. Thinking of getting another maybe a 10 or 12,000 BTU for my garage. Happy camper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful and effective Weve been using this on a third floor bedroom during the hottest summer in history. It works very well however it is a little loud and cumbersome. Because the vent must be placed in a window and the tube is relatively short, it is in an awkward spot. Overall it was a great value.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I hate this air conditioner Too heavy to move Too difficult to attach the vent tube as needed for cooling Frustrating to set up for cooling Tube always popping out of one connector end or another - needs constant monitoring Tube gets very, very hot, so needs to cool before re-connecting after it pops off Did I mention, frustrating? It cools very well once I've sweated through the set-up, if I've managed to be successful - this year I just gave up in frustration: no sonner do I get one end of the tube connected correctly when the other end pops off!! The tube doesn't simply "screw" on to the connectors as stated in the manual. Big pain in the neck!!!!
