Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CottageKid Frost King Heating Coil for Water Pipes
Wow. I wish I had installed this years ago. Every year our water pipes, on the north side of the cottage, would freeze up when the temperatures dropped into the teens. I would have to run the electric heater for several hours to get the water to flow again or blow heat from the kerosene heater into the crawl space, which I did last year. The foam insulation I put on the pipes did little to prevent the pipes from freezing. After I install a 12 foot heating coil on the cold water pipe and a six foot line on the hot water pipe, it worked like a charm. Hardest part was wrapping the foil back fiberglass installatiion around the pipes after installing the heating coil. Be sure to wear a good air mask and goggles. Temperatures were in the low single digits last night and even below zero the other day and still the water didn't freeze. Didn't even have to drip the faucets. I am so grateful I put it in this year. I would highly recommend this for anyone having frozen pipes. Also I called Frost King to ask them a question about the installation and it was great to have a real person on the other side of the line. I'm a happy customer. Thanks Frost King and thanks Home Depot.

i had gotten a 42 ft version that was sitting around for a year and the thing stopped working within a day of installation with all guidelines and instructions followed. It got me so aggravated cause after i found that the other heat tape stopped working on the outside! Frost king is the worst. my winter is looking impossible to survive and i thought this was the answer to my problems. this was installed on pex pipeing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Homeowner Works as advertised
I have used this product for years under my house where the waterline comes out of the ground and up into the house. Since it is controlled by thermostat I leave it plugged in year round. Never had ANY problems and my pipe does not freeze anymore.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lochinvar Don't buy this!!
3 out of the 4 cables I tested were bad (cables failed to heat up after wrapping the thermostats with a bag of ice). I finally gave up and will look for another solution. Good thing I didn't install these; Frost King warranty only covers their products, not the damage to pipes that faulty cables would cause. If you value your pipes, don't get this stuff!!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by OnTheWing Manufacturer Contact Very difficult
When trying to call the manufacturer to ask clarifying questions about product questions, like “what temp does the cable operate at” for product uses (details specify copper but also plastic pipe other places so I wanted clarification) was impossible to do because repeatedly, and I mean “very” repeatedly, I tried calling. The each time after waiting my position it the call queue, my turn would come and I’d get disconnected because it would go to voice mail and the queue was full. All that can do is hurt business. I started looking for different products.

Worked perfectly to un-freeze an outside frost free water hydrant in my horse barn, and kept water flowing in sub zero temps. Installed easily, and works perfectly.

Glad I tested it. Left alone in a room that was 15° for 45 minutes and the cable was not heated at all. Tested the voltage draw and it was just one watt (for the light at the end of the cord).
