You can put this on the steam pipe. We do not know if it will help deaden the sound.

Is it proper to use this to insulate a 4" rigid galvanized dryer vent duct that runs through an un-insulated garage?
Asked by: questioner
There is no reason to wrap the dryer vent since it is exhausting heat. The only reason to wrap would be to curtail heat in the summer in the garage.

Customer Reviews

12 in. x 15 ft. No Itch Duct Wrap Insulation R4 is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would be a great product, but it's only 1/2" thick This should be advertised as 1/2" or repackaged loosely, so that it's not so compressed. I left it out for a week, and it almost recovered to 1/2", not 1". I had to double it up to get the advertised R-value. Too bad, because I liked working with this better than fiberglass.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good insulation used as specified. But----------- My duct system near the HVAC furnace\AC Evaporator was sweating like crazy during the summer. It is no wonder as the surface gets very cold. Wanting to stop the rainfall near the furnace I considered a number of products. This seemed attractive as it is thin and doesn't impinge on vertical clearance when walking under the ducts. I could use something with a higher R value but this worked adequately. I applied to a limited area where the sweating was at it worst thinking I'd do more later. Afterwards I had some concerns re. flame spread, the material providing fuel for the fire and dangerous fumes if it burned in a fire. I contacted the manufacturer and this is the answer I received: --------------(This space deliberately left blank)-------. So, I will leave the little I already applied but without answers to the concerns I have I will not take it further and will opt for something else. Also, I wonder how the product, per the specs. is not fire rated but also has a Class A rating. All in all I recommended it based upon performance but strongly note my safety concerns.
