Got this for a couple of nights where the low was going to in the the teens. Wrapped the outside spigots with them and plugged into an extension cord. Went and checked later and they operating as advertised and gently warming the pipes.

It's a little confusing how this works from the packaging, but the orange box contains a thermostat that turns on the heater below about 40F (instructions inside). You can press the black part against the pipe to get a better temperature reading, but not really necessary. I had an outside water conditioner, and no matter how much insulation I had, I couldn't keep it from freezing some nights. But this did the trick.

The store was out of stock with heating tape. This was a good alternative. Used it to un-freeze our water lines in our garage after the subzero cold snaps we have been having. Has work well keeping them from freezing again. Like the thermostat on it so the cord only operates when the temperature goes below 30 degrees.

The product is OK but not what I thought it would be. pipe. Wanted a heat tape that would wrap around an outside pipe.
