I have a North facing Valley that Ice builds up on. To complicate this area, it is also shaded by another level of the house that blocks sunlight. Can I attached this unit to my roof shingles to help the melt snow and ice?
Asked by: kytti2kat
My older brother uses this product on roofs to solve Ice & Snow issues on valleys all the time. Used it on my roof a few years ago, and I didn't have any problems with Ice Dams any more, or leakage into my home either.

how hot do these get? and can you bypass the thermostat to use wit a different one that controls the outlet the cord is plugged into? Im wanting to use it to help heat a small 2' x 2' x 9' space inside.
Asked by: overkill
It doesn't matter how hot it gets. You cannot bypass the thermostat and use this heat cable as a heater.

I want to use this in the rain gutters on my house. They e freeze it the winter. Can the cord be in water?
Asked by: Cliff
No, you cannot use a pipe cable kit outdoors in a gutter. You would need to purchase a roof cable kit that you can put into the gutters.

I would like to use on an RV where water lines exit the fresh water tank under the camper. This area is too tight to train pipe along the lines (filler line and line to pump). If the cable is laid in an an area roughly one by two feet and not touching itself will in generate/radiate heat? I have used a utility light with 60 watt bulb but this would be easier to lay in then surround area with insulation and leave in place.
Asked by: Sam
Sorry, this heat cable will not work as would want it to work. Since it has a thermostat that needs to be attached to a supply line of water, (copper, iron, or CPVC) it will not come on and heat as you want. This heat cable warms up against the pipe that it is attached to, to keep the pipe from freezing. It is not a radiant type of cable to keep a space warm as you would like.

9 ft. Automatic Electric Heat Cable Kit is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saving water pipes Installed just before 10 degree weather in a external pump house, it did it's job in preventing pipe freezing. Installation is primarily driven by the location. In a cramped below surface pump house there were hard to reach places.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frost king electric heat cable kit Huge waste of money and extremely frustrating cause if you need this product like I did, it's probably for a not so fun or convenient location. It's worth the $30 loss more than going back in my crawl space in 10 degree weather to Disassemble and try to return this product. either this product is complete junk or I got one with a busted thermostat or something and after the time n effort it took me to wrap and tape it to my lines, nothing has felt more defeating. Do not recommend this product, find something that works
