Answer:
Yes there is a special "spline" that slides onto the edge of the plastic fin that goes into the slot (kerf). I got mine at a local lumber yard / building materials store. It was easy to slip onto the weather stripping, and fit perfectly into the kerf.

I had the same issue, an older Peachtree door with the 1/4" kerf. I bought the weatherstripping product for 1/8" kerf doors. I added .175" diameter screen spline cut to the same lengths as the weatherstripping and pressed them into place with the flat side of a 3" flexible putty knife. The screen spline will fit into the recess in the new weatherstripping and compensate for the kerf size difference. Easy Read More

Nice tight fit and no more drafts! Plus, you can still remove the new weatherstripping for painting if needed because you didn't use any nails, glue or caulk. Read Less

I have a wider kerf and couldn't find wider fins to fit

This question is from E/O 1 in. x 7 ft. Brown Replacement Foam Kerf Door Seal

The original foam is around 3/8" wide so this Replacement doesn't hold inside.
Is there another part number with a wider KErf?

So far I made it fit with extra foam tape, but I don't like that it's loose on the side I didn't use foam tape

Answer:
There is not a wider fin available. You could staple the fins into the Kerf or even place a small bead of Silicone to help seat and tighten the fins.

Answer:
No, it slips into a groove (a kerf) that is cut into the doorframe on three sides. It would generally be used to replace existing weatherstripping that has worn out.

Answer:
This product is meant to replace previous Seal that was in the Kerf on the door Stop, not on the door itself.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Choice Installation easy! Measure, cut and place. Good insulation quality. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Door seal Have a puppy that loves to scratch at the door have had to replace many times, this seal works great I can tell the difference when it is leaking and not, installs very easy and works great. August 29, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Must have been defective or damaged. I bought these to replace old door seals. Apparently the ones I bought were either defective or they had been damaged. The rubber like substance had not been glued adequately to the plastic so when I pushed the plastic into the groove, the rubber like substance did not seed into the groove like it was supposed to. I tried to use hot glue to fix, but was unsuccessful. If you do use these make sure they are glued together properly. They probably will work for you then. October 15, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great solution for an older door I have an older door with a wider kerf in the jamb. Just marry it with a screen spline [size .160] and ease in with a putty knife. It is removable for painting as well. I am a retired carpenter and found this tip from one of your customers to work very well. October 14, 2014
