Does this item ship folded in half?

The last time I installed a similar replacement the item arrived folded in half, making it much more difficult (if not impossible) to straighten out for a good installation and weather seal. I don't want to get into that mess again. I'll travel to a store (50- to 75-miles) and pick the item up to avoid this if possible.

Answer:
no! it comes as one long straight strip with no folds and it is NOT coiled. the UPS guy delivered it and I thought one of my kids had ordered a fishing pole, but it was the weatherstripping. for me, this was a huge plus!

The "non-magnetic" strip goes onto the door jamb at the hinge side. When the door closes it squeezes the rubber to seal.

No, it won't span a gap that size. It may span 1/4" at the very most. My husband says you need to reset your door.

No adhesive is needed. The product slides into a pre-existing kerf in the door jamb. It took about 15 minutes to complete the installation.

Answer:
Jim - no adhesives -- this installs in the door jamb kerf - good old fashioned friction - there are a couple of vertical "vanes" or pieces along the entire length of the seal that provide friction inside the kerf. Great for removing the seal when it needs replacing.

It pushes into about a 1/8 inch kerf cut into the door frame. That is what the little strip of plastic with what looks like arrows does. No adhesive is necessary, but your door frame must have the kerf cut in it all the way around.

No adhesive is required or included. I suppose that if your seals fall right out for some weird reason you may use some adhesive, but I just did two very different metal doors with the same kit and no adhesive was needed. The seals need to be pushed into place. They don't just fall in. You use your thumb to push them in. They'll stay there without nails or glue.

My door had 3 tiny finishing nail holding each strip on. One in the middle and one on each end. I don't know why. The seals stay in place without them.

The OE seal on my stanley doors had enough magnetic strength to flex the seal & stay stuck to the door, these magnets don't have enough pull to be able to stretch the seal at all. Having said that, they are still an improvement over the non magnetic OE seals on my steves & sons doors.

Bought this to replace 43 year old magnetic/kerf that on a south door has failed. Bought this on-line because it isn't carried in store so wasn't able to compare to original -- external dimensions are a match but the magnetic insert is smaller and much weaker than the original. Will keep looking for a heavier duty version.
