I used this item last year--for "both" of my air conditioners rated at 5,000 and 6,500 BTU's. This is an "inside" cover and I live in a condo located on a second floor. If not for these covers, I'd need to remove the A/C units and put in an aluminum plate, but that isn't so energy efficient in terms of providing a good cold air seal. This "kit" also comes with a plastic lining and white tape that you put on first. Cut it to the proper size--maybe 2-3" larger than your A/C! This tape is great as when Spring rolls around, it is easy to remove and doesn't leave "any" residue like duct tape would. The quilted outer cover provides some "R" value, but the plastic lining keeps the cold air from infiltrating. I also took dark hand towels and wedged them "under" the A/C's as mine rest about one inch above my floors. Save product wrapper for future purchase reference!!!!

The only reason i do not give this product 5 stars is that the tape provided with this packaging which you are supposed to use to tape the foam and the air conditioner cord is practically useless. The tape does not stick. I used packing tape instead. I have had this problem since I started using this product years ago.
If you intend on using this cover for more than one season (which you definitely can if you are careful) then I would suggest that you carefully peel off the tape from the styrofoam sheet provided at the end of the winter and keep the foam sheet. The foam is absolutely necessary. I had thrown out and torn up the foam last spring when I took off the cover thinking that I could just buy more however, I was unable to find this foam. I tried using the cover without the foam but it did not work nearly as well. I ended up buying another cover since I could not find the foam. You can definitely reuse the foam sheet if you are careful.
This winter has not been very cold but on the few cold nights that we have had, this product has come in very handy. It is even better if you use the cover made my the same manufacturer for the outside of the AC. If you can get to the outside of your AC easily, it definitely helps insulate.
My cat loves it too! She sleeps in front of the window by the radiator but before I put on the cover she gave me a disgusted look on one particularly cold night and slept in the hallway instead. I put the cover on and now she is back in front of the radiator.
I would also recommend the foam padding for the sides of the AC and even a strip of foam underneath.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by IA4444 Yee Hah! Home Depot is wonderful!
Last month on my way to a fabric store to buy materials to hand-sew 4 interior window air conditioner covers, I stopped by Home Depot to see if by chance I could buy them this year since last year the item was out of stock/unavailable. EUREKA! They were available on line and I bought them immediately. They arrived yesterday and I installed all four easily. The neutral color works well; the elastic band offers tight but effective flexibility. It's like placing a shower cap on your head except it's for your air conditioner cover inside your home. Some very savvy people were totally unaware such an item exists. My Iowa Stubborn kicked in and I was rewarded.
