My 20-year old garage door bottom channels are a quarter of an inch. I need the t-shaped ends of a new bottom seal to be 1/4" but I'm finding the standard width of the t-shaped ends are 5/16" a little bigger than 1/4" and won't slide into my channels. How wide are the t-shaped ends on this product?

(I think they're talking about liquid DISH detergent such as Dawn or Palmolive, and not laundry detergent -- and I'd think a solution of soap with some water would work vs. just soap) I saw some instructions for another garage door bottom seal that said to make sure the ends of the slots or channels that you want to slide the seal into are not pinched shut; if so, they can be gently pried open a bit with the tip of a wide bladed screwdriver. Also, you may want to check the actual WIDTH of your existing/old seal and consider this product from Home Depot, which is described as having T-ends that fit into 1/4" channels >>> ProSeal Model # 55020 Internet # 202205595 (available only as online order). I found the 2-3/4 in. wide seal will NOT work as a replacement for my 3-1/2 in. wide seal, because the narrower seal was effectively much STIFFER and -- because it wouldn't squish enough in the middle part of the door -- left a 1/4" gap between the bottom of the seal and my concrete garage floor which, evidently, isn't perfectly level all the way across. Align the T's of the seal with the tracks slots and push into the track. Grasp the new seal and pull it into the track. This is where it helps to have someone "feed" the new seal into the track. It will get harder to slide the farther it gets into the track. A little soapy water on the track will make the job easier. Once the seal is all the way in cut off the excess with a scissors or a knife. Bend the ends of the track slightly to hold the seal in place. Read Less

Answer:
You typically will want enough material to create a bubble. This way when the door closes it will press down the bubble and fill any gaps. 3/4 of an inch is not enough to create that bubble but I want to make sure you are measuring between the grooves and not the entire trim piece. If you are then you should look for another item.

Answer:
depends on the shape of your bottom door rail, if it is T shaped it will fit, if it is triangle shape it will not, or any other than T, there are many other shapes depending on the door manufacterer, if your rail is not a T then you might have to go on the internet to find the company that makes them for your door, try north shore garage door

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bargain product timely shipping, reasonable price and easy to install August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Replacement This stuff worked perfectly to fix the bottom of my garage door. The seal had become brittle and torn on one of my doors, and it was letting mice get into the garage. After catching a few mice in traps, I decided to tackle the old seal. No more mice after getting this installed. The old stuff had turned into a hard plastic and this gets a better air seal. It might translate to some minor energy savings, but keeping pests out is what really makes me happy. May 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect. Just what I needed I was working on my own to put this new rubber in. It,was,a bit hard going so I wiped along the track with washing up liquid which made it a lot easier. June 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by check "T" width I purchased this product and tried installing. It was very tight fitting in the slot. After trying for awhile I double check my old seal which was around 1/4". This product was close to 3/8". It is not marked on the package so make sure you check the T width before buying. April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy to install Was harder to get the old one out then to install the new one. The strip has about six inches extra so it can be installed tension free. I'm not impressed often but this one worked for me. Of course, I won't know how long it will last for some time yet. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bottom seal This product worked well. Filled the gaps between the garage door and the concrete May 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install As advertised and easy to install. No issues. Buy. January 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by garage door bottom seal please let your customers know that not all garage door bottom rails are made to fit your T shaped vinyl replacement weather seal, some are 3/8 triangle like on my stanly door, so, if anyone has a problem with inserting seal, that is probably the reason. i have been there!........ t December 1, 2015
