Customer Questions & Answers

How wide are the t-shaped ends?

My 20-year old garage door bottom channels are a quarter of an inch. I need the t-shaped ends of a new bottom seal to be 1/4" but I'm finding the standard width of the t-shaped ends are 5/16" a little bigger than 1/4" and won't slide into my channels. How wide are the t-shaped ends on this product?

How do I install this product?

where can I find detailed instructions for installtion?
Asked by: Kent
Its easy to install! Use a screw driver and a a hammer to bend the ends of the T channel back straight on one end of the track. Pull out old seal by grasping with a pliers and sliding out of the track. It helps to have a second person when installing the new seal. Align the T's of the seal with the tracks slots and push into the track. Grasp the new seal and pull it into the track. This is where it helps to have someone "feed" the new seal into the track. It will get harder to slide the farther it gets into the track. A little soapy water on the track will make the job easier. Once the seal is all the way in cut off the excess with a scissors or a knife. Bend the ends of the track slightly to hold the seal in place.

the track on my door is 2 inches wide will this item fit it shows 2 3/4 inches wide

Asked by: poorboy
You typically will want enough material to create a bubble. This way when the door closes it will press down the bubble and fill any gaps. 3/4 of an inch is not enough to create that bubble but I want to make sure you are measuring between the grooves and not the entire trim piece. If you are then you should look for another item.

Does this seal fit an Overhead door

Does this seal fit an Overhead 16FT garage door (with a slide in track for the seal)?
Asked by: Anonymous
depends on the shape of your bottom door rail, if it is T shaped it will fit, if it is triangle shape it will not, or any other than T, there are many other shapes depending on the door manufacterer, if your rail is not a T then you might have to go on the internet to find the company that makes them for your door, try north shore garage door

Don't forget to measure the width as well as the length when shopping for these seal replacements. When I purchased this, I didn't realize they come in different widths, so the new one didn't cover down to the floor like the old one. Mybad. Hope this helps someone out there from making the same mistake!!

Weather strip was not too hard to replace but I am not as happy as I was hoping with the product. The previous weather strip was a rubber and not only sealed the garage door it also helped cushion it when the door shuts. This product seals just fine but when the door closes you can feel the metal stripping attached to the bottom of the door hit the ground. I installed the product on both of my garage doors about 45 days ago and it is the same on both doors. That is why I rated the product with 3 stars.

Great replacement for my garage door seal which had frayed in a few places after many years of service. Before purchasing this, I read the reviews and several people mentioned it was difficult to install. I would say it is definitely a two-person job, but it is NOT that difficult to install. It probably took less than 15 minutes, including pulling the old one out, opening the new package, cutting off a small length of the seal (to match my garage door width).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed but difficult to install As the first reviewer noted, this was not an easy installation. I fed the seal while my wife pulled with pliers. We had to use the soap and silicone trick and what we found really helped was a heat gun. Warm the rubber seal and the metal track allowed it to flow easier and stay in the track, the heat helped expand the track to allow pulling the last foot. Careful to not melt the seal, we did this in december so it very cold making the rubber not flexible, if you did it in the summer leave it in the sun to warm up before install.
