Customer Questions & Answers

How to attach threshold to concrete floor?

I'd like to attach this threshold to a concrete floor to my garage? Is it possible to mount it on concrete?
Asked by: FKberk
It includes 3 ea drilling screws to install, but I'm not sure if these can go direct into concrete, or if you need to drill and install an anchor first for the screw. The screws are like a #10 x 2" maybe?

Does this product attach to the door or the floor underneath the door?

Product info states it attaches to door. Looks more like it should attach to the floor.
Asked by: adirondacks2011
It's a saddle that screws to the floor. You are probably better off getting a plain aluminum or wood saddle combined with something on the door to weather strip it.

Really difficult to get the rubber part into the track. It lasted 3 years before the rubber strip wore out and here I am looking for another solution. I am going to try something different.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to install the VINYL INSERT The vinyl insert installation is the major issue with this product. The aluminum is solid and the adjust-ability for height is a good idea. That is until you try and finish the job by installing the vinyl insert. As others have mentioned, it's possible to slide the insert in from the end of the threshold (to test the fit), but you can't do that after you install the threshold. Mind you, it's the only way to get the vinyl insert to go into the track. The vinyl insert "hints: to make the vinyl insert easier to install", are obvious clues that this design is a problem for many. I am sure it sells a lot of replacement inserts because you ruin a lot of them trying to jam it into the slot!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great buy if you're looking to Waste Hours Of Your Life installing this! Let's start off with the instructions. They are confusing at best, and useless at their worst. You are instructed to install the vinyl, take it out, then install the threshold and put the vinyl back on. On what planet is this straightforward and convenient?? Then comes the screws. They are cheap! And ALL of them broke off at the head when the threshold needed to be adjusted slightly. So now, a project! A project to remove the stuck-in-the-floor threshold with a crowbar. I can tell you that is not in the instructions. Perhaps they designed the hardware this way so you can never uninstall it? The vinyl installation really seals the deal, so to speak. You sit there and gently tuck it in about an 1/8" at a time, on one side only, down the length of the threshold. 36" or so. 1/8" at a time. Then you are free to repeat the fun on the other side! It's a great way to spend some up close and personal time with a household item you will probably never look at again, except in disgust for how much of your life was wasted installing it. If you even get as far as finishing your installation. DON'T BUY THIS!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Quality Vinyl When I read reviews, I try to ignore the "one stars" and see whether others had a more positive experience. Unfortunately, I feel compelled for the first time to leave such a review. The aluminum itself is of fine quality. The issue is with the vinyl. First, the vinyl edges that are supposed to weather seal the threshold itself. After putting them on, it is impossible to keep them on long enough to be able to screw down the threshold. Frustrating design. Now for the main vinyl insert that is supposed to meet the door. It is easy enough to put on when holding the threshold in your hands and starting from the end and sliding it over in the grooves. Unfortunately the threshold is designed so you must screw down the aluminum without the vinyl, and then "pop" the vinyl into the grooves (you can't slide from the ends since the threshold is now flush with your door frame). This is impossible to do. I have looked online and tried the warm soapy water method to no avail. I have tried to use flathead screwdrivers, putty knives, and other tools to squeeze the edges into the grooves but it just isn't possible. I have a double door so it is frustrating that I spent almost $40 on a product that doesn't work. Now I have a threshold without a rubber crown installed and have to decide what to do next.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from going down hill fast I had an old model that I installed about 20 years and had to replace the vinyl once before. I had to replace it again and Frost King changed the design so I had to replace the entire saddle. The new design is terrible. The vinyl insert softens in the heat of the summer and constantly comes out. The lip is insufficient to hold it in place. I took the sweep off the door so it barely touched the vinyl and it still came out. The old design is better. I can understand their cheapening it up so they sell more inserts but the insert should stay in place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy This threshold should be taken off the shelves..period..anyone who tries to get that vinyl strip into the grooves is in for a real tough time, the gasket is too iarge for the groove it is suppose to go into.I wasted 2 hours trying everything to make this work, soapy water..wd is a obvious design flaw and had to go return these 3 thresholds and buy others that actually worked first time . Now I wasted over 4 hours of my workday on a product that shouldnt even be on the is that bad..never again will I buy ANY frost king product, I just do not have that much time to waste on inferior products.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from misleading directions This product absolutely functions as advertised. That being said, there is a serious problem with the installation of the vinyl top. The illustration on the package shows incorrect installation position. It is not easy to install, contrary to videos and instructions. It needs to be installed like the illustration on the website, not the package. I am a seasoned do it yourself and this took me 3 hours. Never again. Busted putty knife, busted knuckles. Use soapy water to lubricate the installation...I installed one side first. The second was more difficult. Found success rubbing the vinyl into the groove with the backside of a screwdriver. Never again.
