Answer:
You will always reduce heat loss by adding them, even if you already have double pane windows.
And on second floor windows, it's more likely that hot air is going out than cold air coming in. So you might not feel it upstairs, but you are still losing heat and money.

Answer:
That really depends on the determining if there are any drafts coming in around your windows or you feel cold air seeping in. If you do, then you can use the Shrink Window Kits.

Answer:
Yes to both. If the tape doesn't pull off of the surface of the window or the plastic, then that means that the bond is so strong that it will ruin the surface of your window. Disclaimer: Unless your windows are vinyl, but then why do you need to air seal newer windows anyway.

Answer:
As long as the Frame is not a Veneer, Wallpapered, or Wallboard surface, it should not damage the window frame surface.

Can the "indoor" heat shrink version be used on exterior windows in a warm climate?

I live in southern california. The night temperatures are typically above 40 degrees in winter, and certainly above 32 degrees at it's coldest. Is there any reason I couldn't use an indoor kit on the exterior here?

Answer:
The indoor kit cannot be used outdoors, since the adhesive is not formulated to hold up in outdoor conditions.

Does the heat shrink LOOK any different from the stretch plastic, once applied?

Assume they were both applied to the inside of the same window. Do they look the same? Is one clearer or less obtrusive? Is one more efficient? Does one leave more damage after removal than the other?

Answer:
The stretch tight outdoor window film will be less wrinkle free than the indoor kit, since you are not using the hot air to shrink the material.

One for this winter. These go up allot ezeier than taping up pieces of clear drop cloth plasit. The only problem is not enough tape, at least for me. My windows are 30"x60" which means I have enough plastic to do 6 windows but only enough tape to do 4. I email Frost King before I purhased to see how long the roll of tape is. I did not get an answer to that but they did send me 2 rolls od tape.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value A great inexpensive insulation product that's easily installed and works better than expected.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Apply in warm weather only This product works well if applied while the outside temperature is warm. Otherwise the tape does not stick to the window or the plastic. I use a hair dryer to warm the surface first then warm the tape to make it more tacky. With some work, and frustration, I am able to get it to work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tape does not hold Have used this product for years, has been pretty good until recently. The tape only held for 2 days. Cleaned it very well with a pressure washer first then alcohol second. Material is ok, tape that sticks it up does not hold. Complete waste of my money now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it.... Love this stuff, use it every year to seal up the windows at my summer house before I close it down for the winter. I order a new batch once a year and I'm set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from patio door is not leaking air anymore Used this to seal my patio door near living room area. We can now sit in the living room without freezing or without the heat up at 80 degrees. satisfied with this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever. I used this product for our large front window. I have used the indoor film for the last 2 years with great success. The tape for the outdoor film does not stick to the plastic for more than a day. It looks horrible because the shrink get rippled every day. I will never use this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 24 hours later...same problem! This tape/plastic combo is absolute garbage quality. Followed instructions and applied the product to every window in my three seasons room, which took a few hours. Next morning, let the dog out only to find that half of my windows are already leaking past the newly applied insulation kit. Will never buy again.
