Customer Questions & Answers

My windows are stained, not painted, might the tape damage them when removed?

Asked by: Frosty
The tape shouldn't damage the stain when it is removed. If the tape leaves glue residue, you could effect the stain if you need a solvent to remove the residue. I used Fineline 919 Wax and Grease Remover, which is a prep for auto finishes, and it removed the residue and had no effect on the paint. Migh want to give it a test first.

Can I put this right on the window in 2 different pieces, or do I have to cover the whole opening with 1 piece?

Asked by: mike
Yes, you can install this in 2 pieces.

does this product come on a wider size? my windows are 50" +

Asked by: bigbluefran
Yes it does. I am not sure of the size but it will cover a patio door (sliding glass doors) or if you cut it you can do smaller size windows.

Sliders/No Molding

My widows are sliders and they are set back/sunken windows. They sit back in the wall approximately 4-6 inches. There is no molding or trim work around them-- just dry wall. They are very old aluminum windows that are very drafty and need to be replaced (just purchased this house and have not been able to replace them yet) Would something like this insulation still work? Can they still be taped to the dry wall or would that damage the paint? Lastly, if they can be used on dry wall, would they be taped on the outter part of the wall or on the inner, sunken part?
Asked by: Tracy
Good question. I'm not sure how much damage they will do to paint, but you can always repaint in the summer. I would suggest putting them on the wall surrounding the window rather than inside the frame. They do stick better to smooth surfaces.

The tape was horrible and would not stick to the painted trim, and don't put too much heat on the plastic as it shrunk so much the tape and plastic came off the trim. Stick to the 3M version, the tape itself adheres better. I was really upset to spend the money and not be satisfied with the purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tape is JUNK!!! I've never written a review of product yet until this time. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I will be taking the unopened packages back for a refund! The plastic does not stick to the supplied tape at all. Very poorly made product! Dont do it, pass this up!

At my local Home Depot purchased the Frost King product because they didn't carry the 3M window kit. Big Mistake. The tape mostly fell off the window frame while the remaining Scotch tape that came with the 3M kit that I bought last year didn't. I think Home Depot made a big mistake carrying Frost King exclusively: it's an inferior product.

It is a quick way to fend off the chill while I am saving up for double paned windows. As I get older putting up plastic is not easy but the result is well worth it. I like the fact that the tape does not pull up the paint around the windows when it is taken down.

The two sided tape they send with it, however, is totally worthless. Does not stick at all to finished wood. Get some better tape and it would be fine. I would recommend finding a better product that comes with better tape from the start though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stick with the 3M version... I used the 3M version of the window film to winterize my drafty useless windows last year and my heating bill was cut in half from the previous year. This year I picked up the Frost King Version as one box of 9 was enough to cover all the windows in my miniature house. Installation was as easy as the 3M product. I covered 4 windows yesterday and today the adhesive has pulled up from all the sills (which I thoroughly cleaned and let dry prior to installation). I would recommend spending the few extra dollars for the better product otherwise you may just end up having to do it all over again and this is not one of my favorite things to do.
