Questions & Answers

My windows are stained, not painted, might the tape damage them when removed?

Asked by: Frosty
The tape shouldn't damage the stain when it is removed. If the tape leaves glue residue, you could effect the stain if you need a solvent to remove the residue. I used Fineline 919 Wax and Grease Remover, which is a prep for auto finishes, and it removed the residue and had no effect on the paint. Migh want to give it a test first.

Can I put this right on the window in 2 different pieces, or do I have to cover the whole opening with 1 piece?

Asked by: mike
Yes, you can install this in 2 pieces.

does this product come on a wider size? my windows are 50" +

Asked by: bigbluefran
Yes it does. I am not sure of the size but it will cover a patio door (sliding glass doors) or if you cut it you can do smaller size windows.

Sliders/No Molding

My widows are sliders and they are set back/sunken windows. They sit back in the wall approximately 4-6 inches. There is no molding or trim work around them-- just dry wall. They are very old aluminum windows that are very drafty and need to be replaced (just purchased this house and have not been able to replace them yet) Would something like this insulation still work? Can they still be taped to the dry wall or would that damage the paint? Lastly, if they can be used on dry wall, would they be taped on the outter part of the wall or on the inner, sunken part?
Asked by: Tracy
Good question. I'm not sure how much damage they will do to paint, but you can always repaint in the summer. I would suggest putting them on the wall surrounding the window rather than inside the frame. They do stick better to smooth surfaces.

Customer Reviews

E/O Indoor Window Insulation Kit (9 per Pack) is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT JUST FOR WINTER I grew up in Kentucky where we had moderate winters. I remember putting a product similar to this on during the winter to keep cost of heating down. Now I live in south Florida. Where it's the opposite. It's so humid and hot 90% of the time. My apartment had the old crank windows. And my electric bill was going through the roof. Then I remembered what we did in the winters. So my thought was. If it can keep cold air out. It can keep it in also. In the short time I have installed the frost king window insulation. I can tell a huge difference in compfort. And my electric bill has already dropped over $20 my next full cycle bill I expect to see $40 or more cheaper

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stick with the 3M version... I used the 3M version of the window film to winterize my drafty useless windows last year and my heating bill was cut in half from the previous year. This year I picked up the Frost King Version as one box of 9 was enough to cover all the windows in my miniature house. Installation was as easy as the 3M product. I covered 4 windows yesterday and today the adhesive has pulled up from all the sills (which I thoroughly cleaned and let dry prior to installation). I would recommend spending the few extra dollars for the better product otherwise you may just end up having to do it all over again and this is not one of my favorite things to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor adhesion Double sided tape didn't work. It came loose the next day.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I bought the 9 pack a few weeks ago and covered 3 large windows in my house. Alot of the reviews complain about the tape. I can only speak for my experience - my windows have wooden frames and the tape had no problem adhering. It took me about 1 window to get the hang of working with the tape. I waited to write my review to see if I would experience "the tape doesnt last and the plastic falls down". No such problem. I will definitely buy this product next season as well. On windy days (like today), you can hear the plastic crinkle slightly as the wind blows against the window. Its amazing how much my windows were letting in. I was hoping to see a reduction in humidity, but it doesnt appear that this product helped with my high humidity conditions. Nevertheless, no complaints here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Does Work, take your time installing it! We live in a 95 year old home in Wichita Kansas. The weather here is bi-polar at times. I read the reviews on here before I purchased this kit. I learned that the best way to make sure the tape adheres to the frame is to obviously clean the frame beforehand, but also to use a blow dryer to heat the tape up as you're applying the tape....it'll adhere better to the surface.I also overlapped the corners and rubbed the tape with a dry cloth while blowdrying it to the surface....it really Does help! It took me nearly 30 minutes per window, it was definitely worth it! We noticed that our living room stays warmer for longer periods and that the Furnace doesn't kick on nearly as much.If you do this right, it'll last. The temps in the house overall stay warmer for longer. We've also sealed the windows in our bedroom and noticed a HUGE difference! Definitely a good buy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall, a decent product This product sealed my drafty, junky vinyl windows. The main problem is the tape is absolutely one of the worst construction products that I have ever used. The only thing it consistently sticks to is your fingers. It is nearly impossible to separate the tape from the backing without using a knife ar scissor edge. Once installed, I was able to feel an immediate difference in the comfort of each room I used it in. I would recommend installing this BEFORE cold weather arrives. I had to heat the window jambs with the hairdryer just to get the tape to stick. Also, you only have one shot with the tape, so I would buy a spare roll just in case. You can always return it. I truely hope that someone from HD reads this and addresses it with the Mfg.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, has removal issues I used this to insulate 10 old windows (with weights) with drafty triple track storm windows. Once you get the hang of it, they go on easily and are completely invisible. They really cut drafts. I used a painters heat gun to shrink the plastic, a hair dryer didn't work. At end of season, the double stick tape pulled off some paint on the sills and trim and left some adhesive residue. Frost King says to remove the residue with a hair dryer and rubbing alcohol. This was ineffective. I used some Fineline 919 Wax and Grease Remover and it took the glue off like magic. This solvent is a prep and cleaner for auto refinishing so it should be available at better autoparts stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best way to easly steal windows for winter! This stuff is great!! I use it for many different applications. For those using this for windows I would recommend using 2 rows of the double sided tape to help prevent the plastic layer from peeling off. This insulation kit helps me save hundreds every year and is pretty durable.
